"Shelly, stop." Matt requests, as she begins clearing up her things. When that doesn't work, he calls her name again.
When /that/ doesn't get her attention, Matt gets up, walks around the desk and turns Shelly to face him. Then he leans in and kisses her to get her attention.
"I care about you. I'm just not used to anyone caring about me as more than family. You know what I've been through and where I've been. I've got a lot of issues. I'm not saying I don't love you, I'm just saying that I need time to sort my head out." he says.
"I'm very protective of the people I care about, and sometimes that comes across as smothering or controlling. I don't want that to be us. I'm just used to being the guy with the plan...and when I'm with you, all my plans don't apply.
You're the best part of my days and nights, Shelly. My dog likes you. He's never liked any of my other girlfriends. All two of them. Let's just say they didn't last long without the Whisper Bark-of-Approval." Matt says.
"But you need to understand that, even if you love me, I can't change who I am. I have a mission and I have to see it through, babe. No matter what the personal cost to myself." he says.
