"Please, don't do anything, sir. You'll just make it worse." she pleads.
"No, I'm about to solve your problem right now." Burke tells her, looking down at Cesar, who is squirming under his hand.
"Cesar, you like hitting women and children. Did I get that right? Okay, well I like hitting assholes that hit women and children. So this is gonna be a teaching moment. If you or your slimy friends come this apartment or this building or even on this street again and hurt this woman or her son...I will kill all of you. Do I make myself clear?" the Punisher asks.
"Man, fuck you!" Cesar says.
"Wrong answer."
Burke slams the window down Cesar's head, earning a new cry of pain from the man.
"You wanna change that answer?" Punisher asks.
"You're a fuckin' psycho, man! I'm gonna call the cops!" Cesar says.
"Real stupid, Cesar." Punisher says, and slams the window sill down again. Something cracks under the impact and Cesar's resistance sharply declines as he begins weeping.
"Last chance, Cesar. Next, I'm gonna stick my shotgun up your ass and blow out your black heart. The woman and the boy are off-limits. If the cops come to talk to them about tonight, I will find you and kill you and no one will ever know what happened to you.
"Do I make myself clear?" he asks again.
"YES! OH MY GOD, YES! JUST LET ME GO!" the man screams.
"Good. Now get out of here before I change my mind about my shotgun." Burke says, letting the man go. Cesar slumps to the floor and starts crawling to the door. He passes a hateful glare toward Alfredo's mother and limps out of the apartment.
"Ma'am, I'm sorry you had to see that. I gave your son some money to go get some candy and what not. If that man comes back here, come to my apartment. I live two doors down from you." Burke says.
"He...he took all my money from work. My son and I don't have any food because Cesar and his friends eat it all." she says quietly.
Donovan reaches into his coat and pulls out two stacks of one-hundred dollar bills and passes them to Alfredo's mother.
"It's not much, but do what you can with this. It's almost Christmas and you guys don't have any decorations. Do something about that." Burke says, turning to go.
"Sir?" Alfredo's mother calls after him.
Burke stops.
"I met a man like you once. He saved me from some people like Cesar. People said he was a bad man, because he kills bad people, but I don't believe so. I think you're a good man, just like him.
I hope you'll spend Christmas with your family, instead of working." she says.
"Thanks, but there's a lot of work to do and I don't get along with my family anymore. Merry Christmas." he says, leaving the apartment.
He heads down the stairwell to the garage to get into his van.
Soon enough, the Punisher is off to work, trying to clean up New York one criminal at a time.
