Marie Claire had run out of options.

The day after her arrival in this strange, hostile version of reality she had discovered that her dimension-jumping device was damaged.  A setback to be sure, but she was confident that it was something that she could simply fix--maybe pop the case open and reconnect a few wires before soldering it all together and heading home.  That proved to be a futile hope rather quickly and now, some months later, she was still unable to fix the device.  With Stevie's birthday having just passed the need to get home again had become even more reinforced; Not-The-Mama was bonding to Stevie while she, a girl used to a close relationship with her parents, had never felt more unwanted and alone.

It was a sobering feeling, as was the realization that she wasn't going to be able to fix this on her own.  Marie Claire realized she was going to have to go to the source of sorts: she was going to have to contact Hank Pym.  It was something she wasn't sure she wanted to do.  The shock of her parents not overcoming their challenges in this dimension was still fresh and raw on top of that was the discovery of a sister through the paternal line.  Certainly she knew of the sister she had through Jan, but Vernique wasn't present and even if she had been she sounded much like herself.  Chris...was a different animal entirely.  Pun intended.  But, getting home was important, more important than odd feelings and sad thoughts and fears so she gathered up her device and its parts and descended upon the lab of one Hank Pym.

She hoped the man didn't have a heart attack when he met her.  She did, after all, look exactly like her mother had at the same age.

"Well... I'm pretty sure I'm not," Hank says, smiling again.

"I have to admit you're friendlier than the majority of the Avengers I've met here. And you're less freaked out by me than Jan was.

"It's weird referring to you both by first names."

Hank gave a half shrug. "I've spent most of my life probing the boundaries of sense and the known. Takes a lot to freak me out."

He nods. "I... imagine it is. I'm sorry."

"Eh, not your fault. I'm blaming whatever sucked Stevie here. I would, however, like to go home. It's all well and good that Stevie's family here is nicing up to her but...I'm tired of being stared at like some sort of weirdo."

Jan hadn't spoken a word to her since her arrival. No one had, really, save Stevie. It was uncomfortable for a girl used to being far more social.

"Hm. I may need more new components than I thought. Something fried a few things out."

Hank frowned. "Well... you're here, MC. And given that my family tree includes robot branches and intersects with Magneto's and all kinds of other bits, I'm happy to think of you as family."

"Stevie? I got the memo about you and her, but I didn't really read it closely."

He goes on. "Whatever you need, I'll make sure you get it."

It was MC's turn to frown.

"You're...not rejecting me?"

"Uh...I'm the big bad What If? Oh and as for the robots...Wanda and Vision's kid is hot. Dated him for awhile until we figured it'd be weird since we're like, y'know...related. But damn. His wiring? Awesome."

Hank actually managed to keep most of his surprise under control, but he was very glad he wasn't drinking anything at the time.

"...Wait, what?"

"...I see," Hank said, after a moment. "I suppose, really, there's nothing wrong with that. No blood relation or anything."

Against his better judgment, but perhaps also out of some paternal instinct. "Who initiated the relationship?"

In spite of himself, Hank had to smile. "I wasn't worried," he said. "Besides... you're old enough to make your own decisions."

There's a momentary warning blip, connected with a particular access card for the lab, before one of the doors opens.

"Hey old man, just needed to swing by and fire up the particle infuser. I need to reformat some of the reassembler mesh for a few new outfits Iiii--- oh hey there." Chris cuts off as she sees her father isn't alone.

She stops in her tracks, holding a hefty armful of clothes.

"Hey... Marie Clare, right?"

"Well, you would have been okay to worry. I mean...your counterpart sort of built Andy."

MC started to say something when Chris showed up. Hello, awkward.

"Yeah. Hi."

"Hello, Chris," Hank had said, when his daughter had arrived.

He was a little surprised, though. "Oh. You two know each other?"

"Yeah... we met at a-- a thing. With some other girls."

She really doesn't want to explain Rate-the-Hunk to her dad.

She looks down at the armful of fabric, then gives MC a smile. "You wanna see the rig Dad helped me get set up?"

MC was pretty sure Hank knew what Rate The Hunk was, but she let it go.

"Sure. That'd be cool."

"You girls go have fun."

Chris grins and nods off towards one corner of the lab. "Come on, I'll show you how it works."

She clears some space on a work-table and lays out the clothes she's going to work on. "All this stuff is just single layer, with maybe a liner or two, so there's no real challenge in getting it all set. Just a standard particle infusion normally works.

Of course, that's just for size-change, self-igniting, and the like. Great for a lot of Xavier students. Shape-changing, like for me, complicates matters."

She lays out one of the blouses in what looks like an ironing press, handing a pair of goggles to MC. "Safety first."

"So you make these things to where people can shift about a bit and the clothes works with them? Is this for mutants only?"

"Oh heck no, there's way more than that. The basic flexing and durability thing is something Dad adapted off of the same principles as Reed Richards' unstable molecule uniforms, only better." Chris flashes the old man a thumbs-up.

"The tricky stuff comes with 'deviated form' shifters, like me. Even if it's designed to shift in size, a jumpsuit cut for humans doesn't exactly work for a giant feline body." She indicates some settings but doesn't touch them, as she brings down the press and infuses the blouse with Pym Particles.

"Dad helped me come up with a displacement system. Once the material stretches outside of certain parameters, it collapses into the cell structure of whoever's wearing it, then comes back out when suitable."

The apparatus fires up and a few moments later the press releases, the blouse visually unchanged, but with a faint residual crackle of energy.

"Have you considered duing something like this for non-mutants?" MC's brain was already clicking. She had Ideas.

"It's for everyone who needs it." Chris says proudly. "I want to develop a line of clothes one day for metahumans, not just the ones who want to go out and fight crime.

She raises an eyebrow as she puts a leather miniskirt into the press. "Do you have a plan? That is a Plan Face."
