Goddess's Day Out
Asleif continued to travel the world, occasionally rendering aide as she saw fit to those she saw fit to render it to.  Which seemed all the more often these days.  The world news was filled with reports of the odd mudslide which missed a village or a trail which stopped moments before a collision, and smaller, human interest stories of lost pets suddenly returning home.

But today was decidedly a day for herself, or at least, a day for friends, of which she had precious few.

She appeared in the lobby of the Fantastic Four's headquarters and informed the clockwork golem at the desk that she was here to see Vincent.

A little bit of mischief does still run in her veins, she supposed.

"Enjoyable pursuits, I am certain," she told him. "Would that Asgard offered so many options for entertainment."

"Midgard is all but used up." He counters. "We have diversity, but perhaps not anything so robust as what the rest of the World Tree offers. Magic is disbelieved or reasoned away as fantasy or science, there are so few islands and distant shores left to chart, leaders are made by pen-strokes and coin-purses rather than by the strength of their arms or spells." He smirks. "And I can't remember the last time I had the chance to set out to slay a dragon. It's appalling really, the state of how little wonder is left."

A pause.

"Save for that which we make for ourselves." He seems content as he says that. "I think there is enough greatness in both our worlds that we need feel no less for being... new to the other." He nearly says 'unknown', in spite of having been born and partially raised in Asgard.

Being five years old is a very long time ago.

"And I am happy to share the wonders of this city with you, my dear friend." He grins. "Or any other you might grow curious about."

"I envy them, the mortals, in a way," Asleif mused. "Their fates are yet to be written. Our stories have their ends already marked. 'til then, are we put marking time? I wonder at times."

She smiled thought. "Until then... the company of a friend is most pleasurable."

"Take it from someone who counts creative writing as one of his eternal nemeses. Endings are simple to write, it's the middle that's the challenge." Vincent chuckles.

There's a moment of thought before he takes her hand, tilting his head smiling at her as he gives it a playful squeeze.

"Your ending, whatever your grandfather said to you, is not who you are. You have miles and ages to go before then."

Asleif squeezed his hand in return. "I would very much like to believe that. And thank-you, for believing in me."

"I think it would be a fool's wager to bet against you, 'my lady'." He bows dramatically, smirking at her, before they cross the street.

She did like those words, 'my lady.' Comforting, said from a since of camaraderie and genuine friendship, rather than the merely the respect due to one of the royal house.

"Wise words, my friend, wise words."

They arrive at the restaurant in short order, Vincent ordering a carafe of flavored sake and some edamame to snack on while they peruse the rest of the menu.

"So how are your siblings and the Defenders?"

"Well, I believe," Asleif said. "I scry for them from time to time, but I no longer live with them."

"I see." He swirls his sakazuki gently in his hand before raising it to Asleif and downing the contents.

"I've toyed with thoughts of getting my own apartment, but... it's hard to imagine not being around Kristoff. As much as I'm trying to start being more independent, he's just always been there."

"It is much the same. As much as we chose to disagree... we were always family. First Svalin left for the Avengers... and then I took my own leave. It is the first time we could be said to be truly apart."

She looked down. "I find it a bit daunting, truthfully."

"Well... perhaps I do exaggerate... but never-the-less, even when I was an outsider, this is the first I can say I have been "alone.'"

Vincent pours her some sake. "You need never be alone if you wish not to be. I am your friend Asleif, and as much as my own life permits, my time is yours for the asking.

Also.. your father walked among mortals as one, didn't he? Have you considered such an experience yourself?"

"You believe I should adopt a mortal identity?" Asleif asked. "An interesting option."

"It would certainly be an effective way of walking the world. Much like my own dealings with conventional education." Vincent states.

"Mortals are many things, but they are rarely alone."

"I hope you do." Vincent smiles. "If only for the chance to see more of you in mortal garb." He winks playfully, raising another cup to her before downing it.

Asleif drained her own cup, hiding her smile behind that.

"And here I believed that the last dress was as much "more" of me as you could see, and yet remain decent."

Vincent laughs. "Decency, you'll find, is a subjective matter. I imagine if I ever aid you in shopping for a swimsuit you'd find it somewhat shocking."

Asleif, in a show of how much she felt reasonably safe and comfortable around Vincent, opted for some measure of direct honesty here.

"I have doubt that I shall do such a thing. I have never been fond of bright sunshine... and I do not, in truth, know how to swim."

Vincent nods, finding that not entirely surprising.

"Such atmospheres are not for everyone, indeed." He turns his attention to the menu. "Do you have any questions about the cuisine?"

She looked it over. "I largely understand fish, I believe, though I find some of these names quite strange."

Vincent nods, laying his menu flat to point out some items. "It uses the Japanese names for the various types and grades. These ones here are combinations of ingredients rolled up together, and these ones are solid cuts of fish laid atop small blocks of pressed rice.

These ones here, egg, shrimp, crab, and eel, are all cooked in a certain manner, so they're generally a good place to start."

Asleif nodded pleasantly. "That seems reasonable then."
