Game Night.
Kassi had helped Mac decide on a nice shirt, button deep blue, with nice dark jeans.

He showed up a few minutes early at the Baxter Building with their tickets and a small pot of Butterfly Ginger. He told the lady at the desk he was here to pick up Andrea.

"I did," she told him. "I was uncertain whether or not I would attend."

"Well, if I don't manage to completely humiliate myself the rest of the night, would you maybe want to go together?"

Andrea smiled and took a calculated risk and took his hand in hers.

"I would like that very much," she replied. "And you are doing most finely tonight."

Mac smiles sheepishly. "Good to know."

And then the game starts again.

Mac'll hold onto that hand. A bit tightly once the Knicks start rapidly losing their lead. And the last few seconds of the game get Pretty Darn Tense. But when the winning free throws are achieved, he hugs Andrea gleefully without really thinking.

Andrea may not be human, but she certainly had the programming to stimulate anticipation and tenseness equal to one.

She would admit, later, too, to having been caught up in the moment, for she too was cheering madly, and threw her arms around Mac.

And Mac thinks he's probably supposed to have a slightly awkward moment holding her -- noting how pressed close he is when they're still just getting to know each other -- but he's too happy to be bothered. When they part, he'll hold onto her hand again as they wait for the crowd to disperse some.

Andrea is quite happy to be holding his hand. "That was incredible! I felt for sure my fuel-pump would burst from anticipation!"

The turn of phrase is odd to hear, but Mac knows enough to realize it's equivalent to a heart, and he concurs emphatically. "Mine too, seriously."

"It was! Gods, it was cool." Eventually, the crowd has thinned enough they can get up.

"Very cool," Andrea agreed.

"Would you like to get coffee?" she asked, as they made their way out.

Andrea's most preferred spot for coffee was in Greenwich Village, a place called Harry's Hideaway frequented by old Hippies and still frequented by Bernard the Poet. But she had discovered other favorable locally owned coffee shops, and it was to one of these that she took Mac.

Once they had their coffee (and she had also insisted he try the pastries), she found them seats.

"I am glad the weather is still fairly warm," she said. "I love the city in winter, but prefer warmer temperatures overall."

Mac obediently gets both coffee and pastries. "I'm pretty good at any temperature, but I can totally see the benefit in getting the look and feel of the season without freezing your tail off."

Andrea nods and happily sips her coffee, letting out a perfectly modulated sigh of satisfaction.

"You must be glad," she said, "to be back on Earth for the holidays?"

"Definitely. Just in time for Thanksgiving at Grandma Rider's. Debating with dad what the closest form of bird to turkey on the Badoon homeworld is just doesn't count."

She giggled at that. "That sounds wonderful," she says. "My father usually joins me at the Baxter Building, along with the others families. It is quite enjoyable, though Mister Grimm as been known to throw things at the TV if the game is not to his liking."
