All Hallow's Eve (open to all)
All Hallow's Eve, or Halloween as it has been come to be called, is a popular holiday with children and adults alike. It is a holiday that had its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain or Summer's End. Samhain celebrated the end of the "lighter half" of the year and the beginning of the "darker half".

On this evening the barriers between this world and the Otherworld were believed to be thin and the spirits, good and bad, of the dead could pass through. The spirits of the family's ancestors were welcomed in while evil and bad spirits were warded off by the wearing of masks and costumes. The costumes and masks disguised one as a harmful spirit and avoided harm from others.

It was also a harvest celebration and time to take stock of food stores for the winter. Livestock were slaughtered and the meat prepared for storage. It was the final harvest of the year and the crops were then stored for the winter. Celebrations included bonfires and tales of the family's ancestors.

It was a celebration of the dead and of the harvest.

Today we dress up in scary and not so scary costumes and masks and go door to door for candy or attend costume parties. It is a night for revelry, pranks and fun.

The Avengers' mansion was decorated appropriately to celebrate the holiday. Spiderwebs (fake of course), jack-o-lanterns, ghoulish dummies of witches, mummies, vampires and other images right out of horror movies were strategically placed. Artificial smoke floated inches above the floor and swirled around objects and legs. The front stoop was well lit inviting trick-or-treaters.

Artificial smoke floated inches above the floor and swirled around objects and legs. There would be very few trick-or-treaters because of the relatively remote location of the mansion, but it didn't stop the inhabitants from celebrating.

Lucas, as planned, goes camping, far away from parties and most people. He did leave it an open invite, but figures most of the kids would prefer to be involved in the festivities. He's more interested in thanking the Mother for the harvest and taking advantage of the thin barrier between the world of the living and the dead tonight to thank the ancestors.

After a long day of doing casework Leo sat back to watch horror movies on AMC. Dawn of the Dead the remake was going to be on followed by The Walking Dead. His apartment was mildly decorated for Halloween and he had some fun giving candy out to trick-or-treaters having gotten the Wonka variety pack and eat about half of it himself.

Kelly was too busy to do much for Halloween, so she just found herself a new t-shirt to wear with otherwise normal clothes. The front, in alternating black-and-orange lettering reads:

I'm going as a streaker for Halloween. I'll put my costume on later.

Not having trick or treaters so far from the city did nothing to dampen Marlow's enthusiasm. She put on her jungle girl outfit and left treats at every cottage door and at bedroom doors in the main house.

Eiltin didn’t get why people seemed to be dressing up in costumes and hadn’t dressed in one himself though most people would probably think what he regularly wore was a good costume. He had asked if he could make a bonfire on the beach sort of like what he would have done back home for Samhain.

Halbjorn has learned his lesson. Staying home leads to weirdness and candy, the former not the good kind, while the latter he really doesn't care for any more than he does any thing else sweeter than mead.

This year he goes out partying. His normal clothes apparently work just fine as a costume.

Greg was always on the fence about Halloween. Sure it was the one day of the year he could go out in werewolf form and not be stared at or have people running in fright, but it was also the one night of the year where it seemed the most black magic was cast. Greg and black magic didn't mix well. It was also his birthday.

Wes, his twin brother, took turns visiting each other. This year it was Wes' turn to come to Chicago. Last year Greg had gone to San Francisco.

The two brothers didn't dress up (or change into werewolves) and hit Greg's favorite bar. They would spend a few hours there before Greg had to swing by Shelly's. She had gone through the trouble of sending an invitation and he would at least show up.
