At that, Cassidy's heart broke.
Just a moment ago, he'd been told that he had a real family with a brother, cousins, grandparents and uncles. Now...he was learning that he might not be anything more than an experiment in genetics.
He wasn't even a real person. Just something that Dr. Millbury, or Mister Sinister or whatever his name is, cooked up in a lab because he was bored.
Tears well up in Cassidy's eyes as he tries to wrap his mind around this, to process it, but the idea of being a clone or worse hurts more than the idea of just being unwanted.
"So, I'm basically just a science project that escaped captivity, then?" Cassidy asks, pain coloring his tone as he holds his head in his hands.
How would anyone ever accept him if they knew what he was? How would he ever accept himself?
