Trying This Again
Cait was determined to have a nice night out with Aaron without something happening. She made offerings in the morning to Fortuna, the goddess of luck and fortune, that tonight would go a lot better than the last few times she and Aaron had tried to go out. Tonight she was planning on a quick dinner and a movie. It would go smoothly or she was seriously going to hurt someone.

Cait threw on a pair of jeans, shirt, leather jacket and a pair of boots and went to find Aaron.

He was horrible at this whole tailing thing. John Ostrum knew that Aaron was onto him as soon as he went to park. There was no helping it at all; he was going to have to confront the young man sooner or later.

Of course, the moment Johnny Ohm parked, he wanted to get the hell out of there. He knew he could just start the car and leave, turn around and go, and just wait for another day to present himself to Aaron.

However, he'd lost so much time with him already. What if another seventeen years went by before the boy saw him? What if something happened to one of them in the meantime?

He was about to get out of the car and go over to him when the knock on the window came. John rolled down the window and smiled at Aaron and Cait.

"Uh, hey. Look, I know what this probably looks like, and yeah, I've been following you, Aaron. I know your name, man, so please don't be alarmed. I know your mother. She told me how to find you so I came looking. My name is John Ostrum, Aaron.

I'm your father." he says, offering a hand to shake.

Aaron’s eyes went wide he had trouble believing this was true. He didn’t think it was possible that he would ever found out who his father was let along meet him not even in his wildest dreams. He had learned to accept that years ago and hadn’t even really thought about that type of thing seriously in years.

“I don’t know what to say,” Aaron said. His first that had been this was some cruel joke but he did look like he really could be his father even if he did look a little bit young for that.

He raised his hand to shake the man’s hand that he had offered.

Man, we could be brothers if someone didn't know any better. He really does look like me, though. John marveled.

It takes a minute for him to let Aaron's hand go, but he does.

"Aaron, look, I can only imagine what kind of shock this is for you. I'm still reeling, too. But I'd like to get to know you if and when you have the time. We can do this at your pace.

I'm not gonna ask for anything more than you're willin' to give, but I'd like to be friends to start, if that's good with you." he says.

"You bring up a good point, Miss, and I'm ashamed to say it but...I was afraid. Look, my old man didn't take a lot of interest in me when I was young and I fell in with the wrong crowds. I got arrested for something I didn't do and no one would believe me, no matter how much I proclaimed I was innocent." John says, remembering what had happened to him in prison.

"When Maria told me about you, Aaron, I was afraid that you might not be interested in gettin' to know me at all. Yeah, I could have just walked up and asked, but not everyone handles things the same way. I thought, maybe, if I could just see what kind of guy you were, I'd know if you were interested.

And here we are, after my failed attempt to follow the two of you." he says, chucking mirthlessly.

"I apologize to both of you for messin' up your date. It won't happen again, Aaron." John says. He turns to look in the glovebox of his car and gets a pen and pad, then writes down his number on a piece of paper.

He hands the paper to Aaron.

"If you want to talk a bit more over the phone before we meet up again, there's my number. Maybe we go grab a hot dog or somethin' one of these days. No pressure, just two guys hangin' out.

Your mother also has my number, in case you lose that one. I'll let you two get back to your night, though, because I didn't mean to screw it up in the first place.

Again, I apologize." John says, starting the car.

	Aaron took the paper with the number on it. “Thanks I will give you a call,” Aaron said. He could understand why he was nervous and at least he had a very good reason for not being there for him though the interrupted dates was not fun. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	John nods at the pair, then starts his car and will drive off unless stopped, feeling badly about messing up his son's date. He's going to make it up to him if Aaron calls him. He'll think of something. He usually does. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Aaron was in a state of utter shock he still hadn’t been able to completely process this and probably would not be able to for a while. His dad had showed up after over 21 years and he had a good reason for not being there though he would want to look more into that.

He was curious as why his mother hadn’t told him about meeting his father but he also had some very good guess as to why she had not told him too.

He had his number and would call it once he had more time to come to terms with all of this.
