NEWS! (Open to Reactions)
Spider-Man on a Rampage! - Just when you thought it was safe to walk the streets of New York again, the menace known as Spider-Man has reared his web-covered head. Recent months has seen an surge of gang violence gripping New York, beginning with the shooting death of a 15 year-old student from Midtown High. Since then, the so-called "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" has attacked any groups with gang-affiliations. Members of street gangs such as the Poison Memories, the Midtown Saints and the Grim Bastards Motorcycle Club have been admitted to hospitals with alarming frequency. ..(CONTINUED ON PAGE 2A)

Local Media Mogul Seeks Support For Relief Efforts- Julian Howard, known as the manager behind the mutant reality sensation, X-Factor, has met in recent weeks with a slew of politicians and attended Congressional hearings in Washington D.C. seeking ways to bring more federal aid to the embattled citizens of Fargo, Georgia.

"We are just a few months removed from this tragedy, but we cannot forget its impact or that there are real people still suffering." Howard says.

Mr. Howard has been outspoken in his desire to bridge the divide between humanity and mutantkind in the wake of the tragedy that took the lives of over 3,000 people. A three-day benefit concert is close to being announced and is rumored to have the names of several prominent mainstream and independent artists on the marquee. (CONTINUED ON PAGE 10A)

USA v. Mutants? - A robbery enacted by a group of mutant criminals two weeks ago was thwarted by a new task force created by the Department of Homeland Security. A unit of the Mutant Response Division, led by Command Master Chief Windham Carter, apprehended the crew of mutant thieves after an hour long stand-off. Eyewitness reports also state that another group of mutants came to the aid of the MRD, but this cannot be confirmed. Colonel Audra Wesker, head of the Division, expressed relief and gratitude that there were no serious injuries or deaths. (CONTINUED ON PAGE 3B)

Cait snorted when she read the bit about the robbery. The X-Men took care of the robber and saved the hostage. Not the government idiots.

"Well, there goes the neighborhood." Adrian says, reading the reports in the paper, especially the ones about Spider-Man.

He did smile at the bit about the MRD. His cousin was doing well for herself.

Cassidy sighs sadly at the stories. This was all happening because of him.

Sometimes he wondered if it was ever a good idea that he escaped Doctor Milbury at all.

May nearly tore the newspaper in half.

Someone was impersonating her father. Her father, who had protected and saved New York City and its residents countless times over for years. Someone was out there, giving him a bad name (though granted, jackasses like J.Jonah Jameson had been trying to do this since her father first donned the Spider-Man costume).

Whoever he was, he was going to stop. May grabbed her costume, throwing it on quickly.

She had work to do.

There was someone else, who'd clashed with this so-called Spider-Man, who had work to do.

Guardian hit the streets. He'd lost track of that other guy last time, but he wasn't about to let it happen again. This wasn't right. This wasn't what heroes were supposed to do.

It wasn't the kid. That was good. She would be out there with him but she had to go over some of her cases. It was hard work being a social worker and she was buried in her job right now.

The Spider-Man issue was of interest to the Grey King. He considered having X-Factor handle that matter once other issues were addressed.

Meanwhile, this Mutant Response Division was going to be an issue for some time to come.

Time schedule a few more appearances for the team.

Speaking of the team, one of them in particular is a little annoyed she wasn't involved in that slew of meetings.

Lisa knocks at the door to Julian's office after finding it locked, long since done bothering with the secretary.

Lisa strides across the room gracefully, hopping onto his desk and swinging her legs around the open side, rather than over his lap, and sitting on the edge facing him.

"I'll put aside the fact that you went off on another PR trip without me, in spite of your little talk about us being a 'power couple', and get to the more interesting stuff."

She raises an eyebrow. "What's with the new spring in your step? Guys walk around like you've been when they've just won an election or finished a hostile takeover."

"I'm sorry, darling, but your publicist and mine seem to have the inability to get our schedules to mesh. I mean, who likes to have to make an appointment to get in touch with their..." what exactly is she to him. "...significant other?"

He smiles at her assessment of his good mood, figuring that both definitions she's using are accurate for the reason that he's doing so well.

"It's a new day, Lisa, and we're at the top of it. I've got a new club opening in New Jersey next week, and having X-Factor's dominant female in attendance sounded like a good idea. Of course, you'll make a $500,000 appearance bonus for it, but I was thinking maybe you'd consider coming more for the company." Julian says, standing up move a little closer to her.

"Oh, and I just procured two new homes: one down in Bon Temps, Lousiana, the other in Mississippi. I was thinking you might come with me to, uh, christen them. Of course, they're only seasonal residences, but they'll go nicely with the other ones I've accumulated so far." he whispers.

What is she? Good question.

"Save the number crunching for the agents, sweetie, let's keep on topic here. Good idea on the vacation homes though." She affords him a brief smile as she reaches for his tie.

She teases it out slowly, before her grip tightens on it, somewhere between dominant and threatening.

"I've seen you long enough, and I've seen your... talent." She fixes him with a gaze. "You're walking around like you've fed on a new scale. I wasn't talking about success just in terms of dollar signs or property... I was talking about power."

Julian's become used to this game, especially with his tie. He keeps his eyes on hers as they watch each other.

"X-Factor is doing what I created it to do, and it's opening doors that I never expected, Lisa. I'm making moves to solidify my position in the media industry. Granted, Fargo's setting us back about fifty years in terms of relations, but...X-Factor is off-setting that nicely." he tells her.

"Since we know what you're looking for, why don't you tell me what you're hoping to get out of things, Lisa? Do you want to run your company or something? Meet a businessman or two?" he asks.

The gaze turns into a glare. "Don't play with me Julian. Not now. You're up to something, and I want to know what it is."

She crosses one leg over the other as she drops the tie, snorting. "Don't go expecting me to be all deep and ambitious and self-righteous about mutant equality. I just want enough money and fame to live life on my terms, and keep on trying whatever powers I can. X-Factor and modeling and playing the party girl role give me all of that, but it's not what interests me."

She tilts her head at him. "You... you're different than all that. This is all just window-dressing, for something else. I want to know what that something is."

A pause.

"And you're the only businessman I can stand."

"Perceptive." Julian compliments. "What is the purpose to having money, fame, power if you're only going to accumulate it. I always hated that about most powerful people. They accumulate for the sake of having not doing."

He stands up straight and walks around his desk to look out the massive window.

"I'm going to change the world, Lisa, because that's what it needs. Please don't misunderstand: I don't want to rule the world. That's left to better men than myself." Julian says, two of those particular "better men" coming to his mind. Andrew and Father. However, he isn't certain that either man would welcome the task.

"However, I plan to help find that better man and elevate him to that position." Julian says.

"You care about the fate and status of Mutant Town, don't you?" Julian asks, shifting gears abruptly.

"...Hm." Lisa grunts, watching him move and taking in his words. "For all I think you're up to, I never figured the fate of the whole world was on your mind. So what exactly are you doing for the benefit of this theoretical man?"

She slides off the desk and sits in Julian's chair.

"The short version is because I live there. It's my grounds, and I'm not about to let people trying to turn other people into a recreational product run roughshod over it. The longer version... I was brought up in privilege. Not upper-crust, but middle-class America enough that I never needed to worry about windows getting bashed in when I went to sleep at night. Police were people you instinctively trusted to protect you. Now at least some of them are in league with or at least giving a pass to organ harvesters? That pisses me off."

If she's ruffled about being asked about that subject, it doesn't show.

"This world could be so much better with the right people in charge, Lisa. I've started working on helping the right people get where they need to be to effect the change I'm hoping for." Julian tells her, turning back to find her in his chair. He smiles at the image for a bit, looking down as he walks toward her.

"I'm not fond of people using mutants as test subjects or worse, either. We can shine a light on that, Lisa, and make sure it never happens again, but we're working from a position of weakness right now. Have you heard about this new Mutant Response Division that's been created? This was exactly what I was hoping to head off when I first created X-Factor. Now that they're here, it's going to be difficult to get rid of them, but an idea is coming to me.

We'd gain a great deal of clout in the public and government circles if X-Factor were the ones to find the mutants responsible for the destruction of Fargo." he says.

"Just what I said. We catch the ones responsible for the tragedy in Fargo. I've been looking into it since just after it began. It's being written off as two warring groups of mutants, but all of the information I'm gathering is painting another picture. I just don't know what.

"The eyewitnesses say one thing, yet no trace of those responsible remains, and I don't we're lucky enough that they all vaporized each other during the fight." Julian says.

"Those people are out there, Lisa, and we need to find them." he says.

She runs a hand through her hair, thinking. Eventually, she slouches slightly and lets out a sigh. "How about we just go back to my place and you explain what the hell it is you're up to? It gets tiring being aggressive, and most of it just slides off you anyway."

Sadly, the image of Spider-Man that Justin read about fit with the one he knew back home. If he weren't busy helping Misha out, he might hit the streets himself, find this guy and put him in a box.

Still, the other Avengers might be able to handle it for now. He wouldn't get involved unless it really got out of hand.
