Under Da Sea
Atlantis was never a far trip, not if she was swimming full out.  Sure, she could have arranged for pick-up of some kind, as befitted a princess, but Marrina was occasionally about establishing her own independence.  She knew she'd been given incredibly free range in terms of royal demands on her, with her education in matters of state taking place on the side and sliding into her own schedule...

She wondered if all that was finally catching up with her.

In no time at all, however, she was at Atlantis.

"I...have no dating prospects, but I'll keep this all in mind. Oh and Team Mason."

He was cool enough and it just seemed shady to her, the idea of challenging for Marrina's hand when it was her hand to give in the first place. Certainly she understood things, but...somethings just seem archaic.

And Marrina was even father down on the hybrid line. At least Namor was half Atlantean. She was a quarter at best, a quarter human, and half alien. Would Atlantis accept that kind of ruler? She wondered.

She frowned. "You mean, if Mason loses...?" she didn't finish the question.

"He can take anything they can dish out. I believe in him."

"Yes, if he loses, you can no longer be with him, Marrina. You must understand that the rules must be followed exactly for the challenge to be considered valid. The challenger /must/ announce himself to you and the duel must occur in your presence." Namor says, placing his hands on Marrina's shoulders and looking into her eyes.

"I also cannot stress enough that Mason must stand or fall on his own. If you or anyone interferes on his behalf, then the challenge is invalidated...in favor of the challenger. I can tell that you care for him, but he must prove to his challengers and to Atlantis that he is willing to sacrifice all for your hand." Namor tells her.

He sighs deeply and steps back. "Your greatest weapon in this is the freedom of choice, Marrina. Even if one of the others should win...you do not have to accept him. It will cause issues and anger down the line, but I do not wish to see you shackled into a loveless alliance for the sake of maintaining face for our family." he says.

Kassia sat quietly. She had nothing to say.

Marrina held eye contact with Namor, fighting down the fear and uncertainty she felt. She knew she loved Mason, even if they'd never really gotten much beyond making out. But to have all this suddenly thrust upon her, and worse, to be bound by ancient custom in such a way...

Sometimes, she wondered if it would have been simpler never to have met Namor. But then she'd never have known her sister. And without her help, who knows what might have happened to Kassi.

"I... thank-you, Father," she said, keeping up her determination.

"And thank-you, too, Kassi. Glad to have someone else rooting for Mason."

It pains Namor to watch his children suffer. Christina had been through so much in such a short period; her life would never truly be normal. Marrina now understood that Atlantis would not allow to remain divided forever, and Kassia...his youngest daughter had already taken a life.

The anger rose inside his stomach like bile. He'd been torn from each of their lives, unable to show them anything other than what they'd always know. For Marrina, she'd ended up with good people who loved her. For Christina and Kassia, they'd ended up with a murderous bitch who'd whored them out to further her own goals.

Namor's feelings were evident on his face for several seconds before he remembered himself. His frown softened and now he moved to bring Kassia forward before her sister.

"Marrina, there is another purpose to your visit. I wish to acknowledge your sister as my daughter and as a Princess of Atlantis. This requires your support, as well as that of your cousin Namora. Will you provide this?" he asks.

Kassia moved forward at her father's urging, though she caught the expression he wore immediately prior. She convinced herself that she'd imagined it; her weird headache hadn't quite gone away even with the rest she'd been able to get as they'd waited for Marrina to arrive. She was starting to think that it was going to stay with her forever.

"It's Dad's idea," she offered on the off-chance Marrina was less than agreeable to the suggestion.

Marrina too, caught sight of Namor's expression, but pushed it from her mind. If he wanted to share, he would, and she would not press.

Two princesses, separated from their father and Atlantis by fate or by deliberate choice, both thrust back into the life in a comparatively short amount of time. Namor clearly desired to make up for lost time as best he could.

"Of course I will," she said.

"Excellent. I thank you, Marrina, for supporting me as you have thus far. The ceremony is ready once I call for Namora. You have met her, Marrina, but Kassia has not." Namor says.

He calls for a page and asks them to bring Namora to the throne room immediately, along with the vizier and two other witnesses.

"Are you both absolutely certain about this? This isn't going to cause trouble?" Kassi wanted it, to be sure, but the discussion of politics a bit earlier made her a bit uneasy. She didn't want to cause any further disruption. Especially since she'd just murdered a man.

"I am certain, my Sainted One. You will be a full princess of Atlantis, as we discussed." Namor says, smiling at his daughters.

"And Kassia will not need to worry about suitors. I will make an edict that she will not be available for marriage until she is fifty." Namor says simply.

Namor considers this, looking at his girls.

"Well, we age more slowly than humans. Shall I make it sixty? I do not want Kassia to deal with this insanity until she is ready." Namor tells them, considering options.

It would be a long, uneventful respite for /him/ if Kassia didn't date for a long time.

"But I've aged normally so far, Dad. What if I don't age slowly? Are you actually going to deny me romantic happiness or fulfillment until I'm old and no one wants me save for what they think might be a closer step to your crown?"

She was frowning. Even Emma didn't have such a strict decree.

Huh. There was something she'd never considered. The aging thing. As far as she could tell, anyway, she'd aged normally. But she was only a quarter Atlantean. So...

"She does have a point," Marrina agreed.

"I believe that both of you will age much slower as you get to your twenties. I am nearly a century old myself, and you can see that I am still in prime condition." Namor says.

Never mind that his joints were growing stiffer each day and that he did not swim nearly as fast as he did twenty years ago.

"Kassia...I do not wish for you to remain a maiden forever. I simply do not wish you or your sister forced into anything." he says.

"You're that old?" Kassia had no idea that her father had that many years of life so this was a surprise for her. It didn't endear her to the idea of being single for so long either.

"No one will pressure me. I make my own decisions."

"Yes, I am that old, my Sainted One." Namor smiles.

"I have a feeling my daughters are joining forces against me. I want for us to have dinner with Christina very soon. She...can bring her boyfriend and you can bring this Mason...if he is still your suitor by that time, Marrina.

Is this acceptable?" Namor asks.

"We'll be discussing my love life as a family?" Kassi blinked. This was kind of weird. She couldn't think of a single person she knew whose family got to debate out and decide on how she would date.

"Ugh. We're not talking about this right now. Just not doing it."

Kassia followed her father into the throne room, not entirely certain what to expect next. She was nervous, but she didn't want that to be obvious so she buried it as much as she could.

Marrina followed, briefly giving her sister a reassuring squeeze on the shoulder. She'd make a good princess. Probably better than her.
