Joey is late to the meeting for three reasons: 1. Doctor McCoy had to check him out again, after initially informing him that there's practically no chance of him seeing ever again. That's still in place but...2. Something interesting happened during the examination.
3. It's a raging bitch to navigate a hallway with a walking stick when you can only see heat signatures.
One of the students leads Joey to meeting room just in time for him to hear Rose's tirade and Tina's rebuttal. Wearing his a pair of sunglasses, several bandages over his eyes, jeans and t-shirt, Joey scans the room.
Ana-Pants is there, as are Rose and Tina, and Kitten. Oh, there's Summers, sliding down a wall.
"Ladies, I understand we ain't all seein' eye-to-eye around here, but let's give the Boss Man some credit. He looks about as smart as we do, right now, getting outplayed by his son. That's gotta hurt a little bit." Joey says.
"But I don't blame Cyclops for what happened, and you guys shouldn't, either. Here's why: Summers did use the tools he had at the time, but he we were the only tools that could go and do the job. Another X-Team would have been made before they even showed up and wouldn't have been able to stop arguing long enough to make a decision on the cure. Those primadonnas in X-Factor wouldn't have been able to stop smiling at the cameras long enough to look deeper into what was happening." Joey says.
"So yeah, we went there, we did our job and yeah, we got burned. It had to happen, right? We've had too many close scrapes already, and we're still damn lucky that no one died. But Xavier chose us because we could the things that the rest of the X-Men would have been paralyzed by indecision to do. They keep usin' us because we're good at it, and actually, I got no problem with that." Joey says, making his way to a chair near Rose.
"I do think it's bullshit you're trying to shut us down. The X-Tremists and the Nasty Boys are still out there and you know that Cassidy ain't safe yet. Not until we make sure those guys are in the ground. Not to mention, I made a call to my guy Thurston Hale this morning to check on somethin' and found out that Brad Simmons vanished before Cable could get to him.
So that's one person out there that still has the knowledge of what went down in their little shop of horrors. And now he's out there, free to sell his knowledge to whichever group of mutant-hating bigots he can find." Joey says, leaning across the table to talk to everyone, Cyke included.
"So, the way I see it, Cyke is this: you can rescind the order to shut us down and let us get back to work after we rest...or you can wonder just how big a mess we're gonna make when we go after all these assholes ourselves." Joey tells him.
"And I know I'm going to find Brad Simmons and discuss his impure thoughts about my girl, so think about that before you decide if you want workin' for you, or against you." Joey finishes.
