Always in the last place you look... like stockings! (X-Factor)
X-Factor was a team, right?  Jason didn't know much about teams, but he was aware that MOST teams actually sat down and got to know each other.  He didn't rightfully give a damn, but the press did.  So, like a good boy int he public eye, Jason set up a dinner with his team at Masa.  If somebody was unable to find something appropriate to wear in their current wardrobe, they were set up with information to contact Jason's people and get something appropriate.  As for Jason?  He was looking fancy and dashing in a custom suit.  He was always overdressed.

Jason, of course, was at the restaurant to make sure everything was in order.  The menus were already on the table, including the all-important drink menu.  They were seated near a window so the press could see them having a great time.  And by God, they were all going to smile-even if Jason would have to force them by the hairs on their lips.

Lisa furrows her brow. "I've had my ear to the ground about soem stuff going on in Mutant Town." She glances around the table to make sure everyone's eyes are on her.

"Crime's up, but that's nothing new. What is new is that more MGH has been hitting the streets. Cops are hauling anyone off they catch with it, as much as the worst crackdowns on potheads, but here's where it gets weird. There's been no follow-up like you'd expect if a gang was dealing heroin or crack; even though we're talking about a street drug that has it's origins in someone's skull or liver. More than that, there's even been rumors that seized caches have been disappearing from police custody."

"Huh, might be worth looking into. I know some folks who might be able to give me some info on the street scene."

That was something Jason had been mildly aware of. He owned land through a false identity in Mutant Town which had establishments used as bases of operations for criminals. But Lisa had more intel than he could gather by harboring those who harbored criminals.

So of course, Jason was intrigued. "That is something to investigate. Let's see if we can reach out to known by-the-book cops in the area and see what they say or how they react. They'll either talk, or be too scared to talk. Does anyone have connections to the police, or other connections that could be useful?"

Jason would use his own, off-the-book, connections to get a handle on the situation. Maybe there was some way he could obtain a sample of the MGH? If there was, he would exploit it.

Julian arrives, eventually, flanked by Paulo and another of his assistants, telling them to have the jet prepped and ready to go on a moment's notice. His other plans are going well, and he can't wait to put the final stroke into motion.

He's still got to get down to New Orleans for that business meeting, but a dinner with the team isn't something he can casually pass up.

He smiles for the cameras, adjusts the lapels on his custom-made suit, and approaches the table with a wide grin on his face.

"All of those are good, however, I think we'd do a lot of good down in Fargo, Georgia. I'd like to organize a benefit concert to raise money for the Relief Fund, as well as attract aid for rebuilding the city. Everyone could use a bit of a good news on that front, in my mind.

DJ, Pauline, would N.I.C.H. Machinegun be up for something like that?" he asks.

Pauline gets nervous-wrecky just thinking about Fargo, Georgia. And she's got a feeling it would not be a good place to be blue.

But the point is valid. She nods a little and looks to DJ.

Lisa grimaces slightly at Jason. "Not that simple.

Any 'by the book' cops who've tried to follow up on the cases have been shuffled to desk duty or traffic violations. Someone, or some group, higher up in the brass doesn't want this touched.

The police are either behind the MGH rings, happy to let mutants keep getting lanced for material, or both."

“My mom does some work down at the free clinic there,” Harry said, “I could talk to some people there if that would help.”

"My mom is one of the region's premier pro-mutant lawyers, and knows a few sympathetic cops, including one or two with internal affairs. Let me see what I can do there. Meanwhile, yeah, we could do a benefit concert down there. Georgia doesn't have the biggest punk scene, lots and lots of R.E.M. wannabes, but we could fill a decent sized arena if we advertised for it on the show."

Jason looked over at Julian and nodded his head. "Welcome, Julian. Paulo." He didn't recognize the other one. But for the moment, Lisa and DJ had his attention.

"Then that's our way in, I hope."

He looked to Julian. "With this kind of issue, it might be best if somebody stays here to look into the MGH situation. Perhaps Lisa, Harry, and myself should stay behind?"

He looked at the two he mentioned. It was a question, so they had a choice they could make for an answer.

Julian notes the initiative the team is showing and turns over a few possibilities in his mind. There's a danger in letting them think too freely for themselves, but at the same time, X-Factor needs to get out there and show that they aren't just pretty faces.

"You make some excellent points, Jason. This MGH issue is an issue for all mutants, and should be dealt with. Go ahead and do what you need to." Julian says, as his phone rings.

"Excuse me a moment." he says, answering the phone. The chemist tells him that his product is ready, and Julian smiles.

"Thank you, Mrs. Abbot. I appreciate the heads up." he says, then sits back down, still smiling.

"Lisa, I didn't know you took such an interest in District 'X' as they call it. Is there a particular reason for it?" he asks.

Lisa fixes Julian with a gaze.

Because it's mine.

"Because I live there. I'm not about to let it get sucked down into the sewers because the human cops are either on the take or can't be arsed to do their jobs. This is where mutants have decided to live, if they're not running off halfway 'round the world."

"Excellent. My only other concerns are for a private conversation at another time, Julian."

Jason wanted to know more about what DJ had been involved in. Making a sea snake anti-venom just didn't sound like something X-Factor needed to be involved in.
