"This just in: Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, has resigned from her Cabinet Post, effective immediately. Thus far, there is no information on the reason for this abrupt resignation, which has taken even the President by surprise. With Ms. Napolitano's resignation, the President will need to appoint a new Secretary to serve out the remainder of her term. This will require the confirmation of the Senate, which has been reluctant to provide smooth confirmation to this President's candidates for office. Some insiders say that there will be a long and painful vetting process before another Secretary is chosen. Under Secretary Rand Beers will step into the position as acting Secretary while the nomination process gets underway.
