Pondering Life (Open)
Caitlyn was sitting on the shore of the lake and playing with the water. She spent more time down here than she spent in her room and she liked it that way. One could never practice with powers too much. Today she had a dozen small spheres of water orbiting around her as she sat and thought about how she was going to tell her parents she didn't want to go home to Nova Roma for the summer.

She loved her home, she just found New York to be more exciting. Professor Xavier said she could stay here for the summer and be an X-Woman now that she was graduating. There was also the option of college. She had been accepted to two smaller schools in the area and one in the city. She just had to decide on one and what she wanted to do.

Cait hated making decisions. She was a more of a "go with the flow" kind of girl.

She concentrated and increased the speed of the spheres as they orbited around her.

A baseball sailed through the small spheres, hitting one and splattering Caitlyn with droplets. A moment later, Misha appeared to get his ball back.

"Hey, did you see a ball come through here?"

"Misha!" Cait smiled as water dripped off the tip of her nose. "I did and it got me wet." A tendril of water came out of the lake, picked the ball up and moved over to where he stood. "This one?"

"Sorry about that, Cait." He grinned back and reached for the ball. "That'll be the last time I tell the kid to aim for the sky. Except I don't think I want to be the one catching those fast balls.

"It's okay. It's only water and that's easy enough to take care of." She grinned. She had always been free with the use of her powers. The water evaporated from her face. "Now if it were the ball I had gotten hit with, it would have been a different story."

He tossed the ball up and caught it, the baseball player's version of pacing. "I've been hit with one of these fast balls. It hurts. A lot. But what can I do? When I said anybody was welcome for a pick up game, I meant anybody. And that's what I got."

"But you have that fancy healing factor," she said with a smile. Oh he was so nice to look at. That's all Cait would get to do. She would never have a chance with him. "You should know better to do that with all the kids and different powers here."

He shrugged, still smiling. "Kids need to play, and there's nothing better than a softball game. Teamwork and all that. Except when it's my ball and somebody was telling stories about the lake monster after lights out. Then the team will be happy to wait over on the lawn while I get the ball. You wouldn't know who's busy reviving that old story, would you?"

"I have no idea who would do such a thing.," she said as she tried to go for a completely innocent look. It was easy enough to make the water in the lake churn and make it look like some monster from horror stories was about to break the surface. Heck, if she wanted to she could form a monster out of the very water and have it move across the surface.

"Uh huh." Misha poked her shoulder with a fingertip. The innocent look on Miss Cait hadn't fooled him in years. But he played along because she was cute and funny.

"With all the kids and powers around here, let's hope the lake survives."

Cait laughed. "It better. I need it to keep me entertained."

"You could always join the game." Still talking, he walked backwards toward the noise from the lawn. "Watching a ball game is always entertaining."

"I think I will," she said as she climbed to her feet. "I haven't played in ages."

"Gonna show us what ya got, honey?" he teased. Tossing the ball to her, he turned around before he smacked into a tree.

"Of course," she said as she caught the ball. She put her hand on her mouth to keep from laughing at him. "Are you okay?"

It was a good thing he hadn't been walking fast. A face full of tree bark was just minor compared to a fastball by a kid just discovering how really strong he was.

"I'll live," he mumbled, stumbling back a couple of feet. A tiny trickle of blood from his nose was wiped away. "Give me a second to heal, then we'll go back and let them think we fought over the ball and you won."

"We both know I'd win anyway," she said and walked up to him. She put her hands on each side of his face and kissed the tip of his nose. "For the boo-boo," she said and then stepped back.

He wiped the last bit of blood from his upper lip and smiled again. "Thanks. Feels much better."

Young voices were calling now, demanding their ball back and the game to continue. "And the crowd cheers," he joked. "C'mon before they start improvising."

"You're welcome." She started walking toward where they were playing. "Come on slow poke."
