Pondering Life (Open)
Caitlyn was sitting on the shore of the lake and playing with the water. She spent more time down here than she spent in her room and she liked it that way. One could never practice with powers too much. Today she had a dozen small spheres of water orbiting around her as she sat and thought about how she was going to tell her parents she didn't want to go home to Nova Roma for the summer.

She loved her home, she just found New York to be more exciting. Professor Xavier said she could stay here for the summer and be an X-Woman now that she was graduating. There was also the option of college. She had been accepted to two smaller schools in the area and one in the city. She just had to decide on one and what she wanted to do.

Cait hated making decisions. She was a more of a "go with the flow" kind of girl.

She concentrated and increased the speed of the spheres as they orbited around her.

Likewise still sitting and watching, Lucas glances over her way, letting the other kids focus better on the game. "I don't think we've met. Lucas Moonstar."

She put on a smile. "Kaila Mailiani. Nice to meet you."

"Not really. Well at least playing. I don't mind watching. What about you?"

"Justr really enjoying the sun and all for a bit, might get into it later. Lacrosse and soccer are more my games."

"Soccer isn't bad. Though I'm really not much for playing sports. I don't mind watching so much."

She looked toward the playing field. "Though the games are a lot more interesting when they use their powers."

"Interesting, sure. And its actually likely a really good idea. Makes practicing with their powers fun, and gives them a semi-controlled venue to do it in. Which I suppose is what this place is all about. It ends up not being very... baseball though."

"Yes, but that's why I can watch it and not fall asleep." She smiled. "If I may ask, what can you do?"

"I'm guessing this is the powers question as opposed to the 'when I grow up' version. Actually, I'm a dream-path. I can enter people's dreams, get rid of nightmares, kick out evil spirits and people like Amahl Farouk... stuff like that. Beats the heck out of Freud."

He looks, frankly, appalled at the idea. "That could really, seriously mess someone up. People's whole subconscious are tied into dreams."

He nods, expression shifting mostly back to neutral. "And a fair one. But no, no way I'd ever do that. Besides, normally to do it I need to be able to touch them, so its kind of a 'willing victim' thing." he explains.

"Gotcha," she said. "Still, it's an interesting power. I do force fields." Among other things, but Shard wasn't going to mention those.

"That's pretty cool. A lot you could do with force fields. There's a few things I can do besides with the dream thing, but a lot of it is still pretty suited to helping out 'at home', or maybe playing interpreter when people wander."

"Force fields can be useful," she admitted. She nodded. "Need to take care of our own."

"Yes, you're right of course." Though mutants' well being should come first. They did have to take care of their own.

He raises a brow. "Sorry, I don't mean to sound preachy. I'm a shaman as much as a mutant, perspective-wise. I also got pretty lucky, growing-up wise. Compared to a lot of people here, anyway."

"It is. I wish there were more like it. But it'd take exceptional individuals like Xavier to do it... I've seen enough of reservation life to not think government help is an answer."

"A lot of people don't do well at dealing with what they're afraid of. Its been that way throughout history. And given the most public examples of mutants, I can't entirely blame people. Especially since there's no dialogue available on either side - or even anyone to really have a dialogue with on the other side right now. The best hope really is just to provide a good example, and change minds the hard way."
