You're Tied Together With a Smile But You're Coming Undone (open) @ 02:07 am

Cait sat on the shore of the lake and looked out across the water. The temperature reached seventy and the sun was bright. Light danced on the water. Normally Cait would be out on the water, but today she was content to sit on a rock on the shore. Plus she was still adjusting to the change in her powers. She still had hydrokinesis, but it wasn't as strong as it had been. She still had the ability to turn into water. It was weird and she had only tried using it once since she returned to Xavier's.

She knew the other students didn't blame her for what she had done as Famine, but it didn't mean she felt any less guilty about it. She had destroyed numerous crops and villages around the world. People would go without food and some without homes because of her.

Tomorrow she'd go home to Nova Roma with her parents. Some time away and some TLC from Mom and Dad would go a long way. She wasn't sure what Corey was going to do, but she hoped he would go home too. Driving him crazy would make things seem more normal. Though she wasn't sure how normal things would be able to get, especially with her blue hair. She had Jenny try to change it back, but it didn't work.

Cait picked up a stone and skipped it out across the water.

Nick had been tossing the idea around in his brain for some time now and the recent events in New York had brought it back to the front of his mind. It was about time S.H.I.E.L.D. started taking a more active role in dealing with the powered set out there.

Nick had gone through some files and had selected a few candidates. Luckily some were already agents. Others he would have to go have a chat with.

"Get Sammy in here," he said over the intercom. "And round up agents Childress, Alice Dugan and Walker. I want to see them as well."

Kristoff checked the repairs to the security systems, now that all the actual walls of the Baxter Building were finally intact again. Kristoff had regretted their inability to assist in the most recent manifestations of the crisis, after the attack that took Franklin, they'd had to secure their home and hadn't been able to leave the noncombatants that vulnerable until they could, at which point the conflict itself was already over. Good for the Avengers, the X-Men, SHIELD, and some apparent newcomers. It had been all the FF could manage to look after their own.

He checked on the others.Read more... )
Next he checked the shipments for equipment he was trying to make available in the pinpointed parts of the world most ravaged by flood, drought, or contamination in the past few weeks of crisis.

And between each of these checks, he would go back and check again, and again, and again, on the machine running every possible scan through worldwide detection and positioning systems for any sign of his brother.

Day after day since he'd set it up, it had run constantly, and turned up nothing.
Until now.

Marrina had been having unusual pain in her ankles for the last few days.  They'd been sore to the touch and a little swollen.  She'd had the team doctors look them over, but they couldn't find anything.  Given that they had only the barest understanding of how her biology worked (she apparently had a few organs no one could figure out the purpose of) in the first place, it had not been that surprising.

The previous night, however, had proven to be a particularly bad one.  The pain had roused her from her sleep several times until, just before dawn, it had become almost unbearable.   She'd woken biting down the urge to cry out from the pain, pain so bad it felt like her ankles were going to split open.

Which is what they had been doing.  From her ankle bones, on either side of her leg, something had been pushing through, forcing its way out from underneath the skin.  It hurt it hurt it hurt it hurt it....

was wings?  Smallish wings had sprouted on her ankles, strange and sudden in the water.  They were definitely a part of her.  She could feel them.

Slowly, she pulled herself out of her sleeping pod and swung her legs over the sides.  She put careful weight on her feet and stood up.

Namor had wings like this.  So did Namora and Namorita.  She was from that same bloodline.  Did that make it make sense that she did too?  But why now?  Did it have something to do with her Plodex half?

She opened the door to the hallway.  There had to be... something she could do to figure this out.

(And she was more than a little interested in seeing if she could actually fly...)

These Are The Times That Try Men's Souls @ 09:21 pm

[info]notinplainsight:

Titan was a haven of peace and knowledge and Kal loved being there, but lately even the ravages of war have disrupted the peace and tranquility. The Olympian Eternals were still comatose, the cities of Polaria and Olympia were lost and there had been bitter and heated debate about what to do next. Druig and his faction had been doing nothing but opposing Mentor and the ideas put forth. Kal thought it rude for guests to act so toward their hosts, but this was cousin Druig. Kal didn't expect things to be any different than normal.

Her family was plain crazy.

Kal was in the gardens enjoying some of the peace Titan had to offer when the warning sirens began to sound.
