Pursuit
Cassidy Summers pads, barefoot, down the sidewalk in the small town of Fargo, Georgia. He just got here a few minutes ago, having hitched a ride with a trucker not far from the destruction of the facility. Though he has only pants a tattered shirt to his name, and despite the discomfort he feels, Cassidy keeps moving through the streets, looking for a hospital.

Something is wrong with him, and this time, Doctor Milbury isn't here to tell him what it is.

He tries to stop and ask for help, but each person he passes by looks at him in shock, or fear, or most commonly, disgust. They cross the street to get away from him, or they quickly hurry by, pretending they don't see him. Why are they so mean? He just needs to know how to get to the hospital.

He goes around a corner, down a few streets, and eventually sees a sign for a free clinic just a few blocks away. Hope swells in his chest, and he's so happy that he doesn't even hear the truck that's been following him for about half a mile. He also doesn't understand why he feels like something in his chest is trying to get out, but he does. Still, he trudges onward, trying to keep himself upright until he gets to the clinic.

Once inside, however, things go poorly. The nurse at the front desk screams at him to get out, yelling that they "don't serve his kind here". Cassidy doesn't quite get the meaning of that; he's human, and so are all the people in the clinic. The woman screams and yells until the elderly security guard steps forward, hand on his gun.

"What did I do wrong?" he asks.

Moments later, Cassidy is forced outside without explanation.

He's outside less than a minute before he hears the peeling of tires and the roar of an engine. His head turns just in time to see a group of angry young men speed toward him and one of them throws a brick at him.

"GET OUT OF OUR TOWN YA MUTIE TRASH!" one of the screams, hopping down from the truck and charging toward the young man.

"Hey, I don't want any trouble." he says.

He's rewarded with a punch to the face that sends him sprawling, and quickly enough, he's surrounded by several angry men with broken bottles, chains and other weapons. They haul the boy to his feet and start to work him over.

"Looks like ya found it anyway, freak." the ringleader says.

Rose can see her vision growing red, feeling the animal rage she'd suppressed earlier coming back to the surface, finding an outlet now. The pain from the slashes that do connect just add to that, though she retains just enough presence of mind to dodge the bite to her throat.

She slashes quickly, going for wicked, but shallow cuts until she can get in close enough to stab.

He takes the cuts, matching them with his own on her body, letting her get as close as she wants. He leaps at her, to grapple with her so that it's too close for her to easily stab.

If there was any semblance of humanity in him before, it's gone now. He's no longer even an animal fighting for territory; he's a rabid dog, seeking nothing more than the savage joy of killing.

Rose let out an animal growl, living up to her Wild Child codename. She's still fighting, still trying to think, but every moment, every injury, she can feel more and more of herself slipping away behind what her dad used to call berserker rages.

But she's got enough human mind left to know how to fight dirty, going for a solid kick to his groin.
