Lunchtime
Melinda remains distant from her classmates, for the most part. Truth be told, she doesn't really feel like she deserves to be here with them. She knows rationally it's nonsense to feel that way, but she can't help it.

So it is that, once again, at lunchtime, she sits outside, away from the others, watching the fountain while she eats her sandwich.

"I...I...I've never..." Jake rambles a little, nervous. Part of him is telling him to either decline or run for his life...maybe both.

It's normal for teenagers to go on dates. I'm normal...and I don't want Melinda to be sad...and I'm not...I'm normal he thinks.

"Okay," he squeaks a little. He's still shocked though.

She smiles at him. "Cool. Friday night. 7 PM." She grins at him. "Sound like a plan?"

Having finished her sandwich, she gets to her feet and gives him a kiss on the cheek.

"I'll see you then!" she grins.

Jake stiffens up thanks to the kiss, brain needing to reboot.

"See you," she offers, and turns and heads off back towards the school.

Jake sits there and nods. "Okay. See ya," he squeaks again.

It's some time after Melinda is gone that he snaps out of it and squirms nervously. "Oh man," he murmurs, thinking about calling some people for some advice.
