He isn't the man he once was. The entire right side of his face and the remnants of his right arm have the discolorations of skin grafts. He's completely shaven, and shows the atrophy of a lot of time in the hospital unable to move. Even now, he has hydration tubes. The need for the latter elevates his right arm, making it that much clearer than he has no right hand.
At first, he doesn't notice anyone has entered the room.
