A little afternoon music.
Corey stepped off at the bus stop a short walk from the streetcar he'd take back to the Room. But he didn't go straight to the streetcar stop this time. One of the Jazz students at the creative arts center had been talking about the house band at Papa Gumbo's. The word 'virtuoso' had been used regarding the resident pianist, and the phrase 'timelessly classic but fluid style' as well.

As an artiste, Corey's interest was piqued. Fortunately it was one of the sort of places that usually only carded you if you tried to order a drink. So he just slipped in and sat in the late-afternoon crowd, which hardly counted as a crowd because the late afternoon was far too early.

"Not many people play the lyre anymore." replies Sin as he breaks apart some of his cornbread and then pops it into his mouth. If Corey is attentive, he might notice the light reflect form Sin's retinas much as a cat's might when he glances away.

"The lyre is a good instrument though, it's been a long time since I had my hands on one." he then comments, smirking. "Any more these days I do industrial and rock when working on my own projects." he motions towards the stage, "It was creeping in to my set today - I think I'm going to have to go home and write something to get it all out of my system."

Corey's pretty good at noticing visuals like that. Interesting.
"Yeah, the one I learned on was a seven-stringer. Belonged to my grandmother. Really nice workmanship. Had the joy of explaining to my grandfather on the other side of the family that it wasn't a harp." Corey rolls his eyes, because seriously.

"I can relate a little; It's hard to focus on still lifes in studio when I've got other stuff on the brain."

The mention of his grandmother and family makes Sin smile gently, and he nods his head to the sweetness of Corey's memory. "Do you still have they lyre?" he then asks gently. "I assume you paint or draw? For me it's completely different. The music takes over and I can't eat or sleep or anything but.. write." he then confesses softly.

"Yeah, I want to make sure to keep it in the family. Maybe my little brother'll decide his interested someday when he decides to apply himself to something, who knows."

"I do some painting, but really I'm a sculptor. All about the rock and clay." He smiles "I'm all in favor of an allnighter or two when I've got something good going, but I've got to admit, I work better when I've had at least a snack. Starving's not the art stereotype I'd best fulfill. But anyway, when you are on a roll, it can make sticking to an assigned-from-outside subject all the harder, that I totally know. But there are somethings you just... well, can't sculpt in studio. Not enough room."

Sin nods his head, his expression rather quiet as he listens to Corey. "Yea.. I understand that, though art was never my thing.. I'm just not good at it." he then says with a bit of a crooked smirk. "Never got the chance, really.. and now my muses wouldn't have it if I took a day off."

"If I remember to eat when I get like that, I'm lucky. It's.. kinda like a madness. It's not logical." he then says with a shrug.

"Well, you're in good company there. Inverse relationship of talent and common sense and all that. My sister says if that's true, I'm going to be the next Michelangelo, but of course as my sister, she's kind of contractually obligated there."

"I'm just lucky that my girl doesn't seem to mind that much when I go off the deep end.. she just tries to get me to sleep and eat by tempting me with it." replies Sin with a bit of a smirk.

"I tease her with the same thing.. that she's just partial." he says. Shrugging some, he then says "I dunno.. Personally, I don't want that sort of recognition."

Corey smiles. "Good for her. Yeah, I'm more than willing to believe the notoriety's not for everyone, but I've got some pretty good plans for any eventuality where a bunch of people with lots of disposable resources might think my work and my opinions are worth noticing. But I won't add to the arts center gossip about this place if it'd make you uncomfortable." And then he realizes something, and nods and waves slightly. "Corey, by the way."

Raising a brow, Sin just returned the wave and said "I go by Sin.. My real name is stupid." He then sighs and shrugs, his voice low as he said, "Industry talk doesn't bore me.. I just don't understand it. I've kept so out of the industry - on purpose."

"Well, as my real name is Cornelius, I'm not in a position to judge, but I'll take your word that yours is much worse. Nice to meet you, Sin."

"It's terrible. Like.. Percival terrible, only.. not Percival. I don't even like saying it." replied Sin with a bit of a grin, trying to make a joke. "Nice to meet you as well."

Corey commences humorous wincing. "Oooh, Percival levels. Yeah, don't say it; I don't think I wanna know. Have you lived in New Orleans long, Sin? I moved down relatively recently from New York. Well, that or up from Brazil. Family sort of alternated."

"Been here for a while.. Kinda grew up on the streets of N'awlens." replied Sin as he grabbed his tea and took a drink. "Never really been anywhere else.. Had the chance but I decided that this was the place for me." He then grins, and adds "Got enough work for me, at any rate."

Corey nods. "It's a great city. Reason I decided to stay here was the arts center, and because I like my roommmates, but it's a great place in general."
