You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman
They had arrived at Earth and had orbited for awhile before Empress had selected her targets. It had taken some time. She didn't want just ANYONE. They had to be among the best. She WOULD win the gladiatorial games this time. NOTHING would stop her. Not even a small thing like gender.

Empress didn't care if it was cheating. The only thing that mattered was winning and she would win this time.

The teleporters were activated and the selected targets were beamed directly to the lab. There they underwent a little transformation and were given attitude readjustments and then put into a holding cell.

The men would wake up in the holding cell to find a few changes.

Halbjorn's outfit is pretty torn up, and she has electrical and fire scars still from the fight with Vincent. Her eye is still scarred shut, and she hasn't had time to come down from letting the madness sweep over her.

Se rushes at Svalin, the Empress' power only holding her at bay until she had a target.

"BROTHER!" Svalin's voice boomed in the arena. She could tell he was under the madness. This would be a little more difficult than she thought. She waited until the last second to side step the rush.

Well under its influence. The Empress has asked for someone to fight for her - and Halbjorn has always virtually lived to fight.
She rushes past Svalin's skillful sidestep, crashing into, then through the wall, tearing through whatever ultra-dense metal the vessels walls are made of, tearing free of the shreds of it to turn back towards Svalin.

Svalin wasn't going to fight him. Doing that would only encourage the Bear Sark. She turned to face him. Even she wasn't going to turn her back on him in this state.

"Halbjorn Thorsson!" she yelled to him. "Son of Thor and Einmyria, Bear of Asgard! Kneel and sumbit to Svalin Thorsdottir, daughter of Thor and Princess of Asgard! Submit to mine will!"

Now she hoped that blood and duty was stronger than the Bear Sark and stronger than whatever the Empress did to him.

There's an inhuman howl from the Bear-sark, but she doesn't charge. She does lumber forward, by all appearances, reading herself to tear the unarmed warrior apart, all while another war happens in her brain.

She lives to fight - but that life is rooted in tradition and loyalty. Being an Asgardian is, first and foremost, all about sacrifice. Living, fighting and dying for something greater. And in her mind, Svalin has always been Asgard, in a very real way.

She'll fight for the Empress. Really, she was one of the easiest to cajole into this. She'd have gladly fought the Champion to fight the Champion. But not against Asgard.

The control snaps, the bear-sark with it, and the wounded, scarred and exhausted Halbjorn Thorsdottir kneels before her sister.

"Aye Princess, mine life is thine. For Asgard."

There was a bad taste in her mouth. She hated this and hated doing this to him, but it was the only way.

"For Asgard," she said gently with a small smile. "Rise, brother," she said and offed a hand to help him up. She knew he was not good shape.

Well, that was less painful than many of the possible scenarios she'd been considering, but still...
It wasn't all that surprising that Halbjorn would be so strongly hard-wired, but Moira knew that wasn't an easy moment.

Still, the thing to pay attention to now was what the Empress and the other boys-who-were-temporarily-not-so were doing.

The Empress' jaw dropped at the exchange. This couldn't be happening! Her champion could not lose!

"What IS the meaning of THIS?" she demanded.

She's had time to think, and time to recharge a little since the fight with Vincent helped open her eyes. Only thing is, blocked off here, there's only been one source of cosmic energy to tap, albeit subtly. Still, she thinks, if she had to, she might be able to force this to get interesting. She doubts it'll be necessary.

"Your new champion has lost to the one you gave up. And you reneged on our bet. I believe its time to pay up."

The Empress was seething. This could not have happened! Not to her. Her champion could not have lose. What had happened? How could that blond tramp win like that?

Still. A bet was a bet and she would honor it.

"Fine! They ARE free to GO!"

She considers. Left alone, the Empress will just be back with a new plan. She needs to figure out some way to make her dwell on this one for a while. And an idea hits.

"Well, the odds were two to one, and you did renege on the former bet. In most cosmic circles, that would mean you would need to pay a forfeit for running away without paying before. Given the current states of wardrobes... changes made to the participants... time and trouble... I do have a suggestion..."

"As we've already seen, the suits designed for the ring are completely unsuitable for daily wear, and none of these new champions you've created have any kind of wardrobe. So we're going to need you and your crew's space suits and additional outfits to make due til then. There might be some things in there the girls you troubled before can find of value enough to be worth the trouble. Meanwhile, you can make due with the combat-outfits. And, of course, you're going to have to leave this system and not return."
She pauses.
"If you think these terms are unfair, I can ask for your ship instead... either that, or call on, say, the Grandmaster, or Uatu, or the Prime Eternal to serve as a mediator on your scale... but you'd rather avoid that, wouldn't you? I'm sure none of them would appreciate hearing that you ran away from your end of a wager. Let alone the rest of this."

Empress considered the terms.

"Very well. They will be given clothes to return to Earth. I will leave this system and not come back." Of course she didn't specify for how long she wouldn't be back. She could wait for awhile.

"No, Empress... specifically, your clothes." She reminds her. She catches the tone, and she knows her foe better this time. And she's well aware she's not going to be able to keep her away forever. But make her limp away without her dignity, and it might be a bit longer before she lives it down in front of her crew.

"Pay up, or I contact mediation. You and your crew may, of course, make use of the changing facilities your prisoners were put in before, for privacy and access to an alternate wardrobe, but I expect payment in full this time."

"Fine," she said. "I'll even give my dress to you." The Empress wouldn't be embarrassed in the least to wear any of the outfits. She had worn less in public in the past.

Iason nods. She's pretty sure some of the crew will feel less generous about the trade-off. Regardless, it'll be a reminder for a while.

Steve was finding it easier to think clearly, which made it easier to want to crawl into a hole and hide. And possibly never come out.
