She can ask him about that sometime, and a lot of comparative ethics, and how he can possibly work for an island full of people who condoned terrible things far beyond murder so tirelessly. He has to believe that people can be better, and sometimes that requires putting his revulsion for their deeds aside, and try and keep believing. His feelings about her haven't changed, somehow. His life, and his work and his ethics can't be first in his mind, believing people can be something better has to be, and he has to believe that someday, if they can work through this, maybe she'll understand.
"I'm going to need you in the next few days. What just happened did a lot of damage, and I'm going to have work to do. A lot of work. If that weren't there, I don't know right now if I most want to tell you to go away, or give me some space, or to hold you close and try and start to get past some of this ugliness. So I'm on autopilot here... I need you, and I need your help."
