Takes place shortly after this post

Grace had been staying with the Defenders for a couple of weeks now. She'd called her mom shortly after Simon said that he'd do any tests that she'd like. Needless to say, Carol wasn't happy with her daughter when she first called. Not all. Granted, Grace still wasn't too happy with her mother for keeping her father a secret all these years. The anger vanished a little, though, as spending time with Zoey and the rest of the Defenders almost made her forget how mad she was at her mom. Almost.

Earlier that morning, Grace got the phone call from the lab saying that the results of the paternity test were in. Butterflies in her stomach, Grace took a cab there, and got the envelope with the results before heading back to the Defenders Compound.

Her heart was beating a million miles a minute as she looked for Simon. She didn't want to open the envelope until she found him.

He had to be her father. He just had to.

Stopping at his bedroom door, Grace inhaled and knocked. "Simon? It's Grace. Are you there?" Her voice shook a little.

"You shouldn't settle." He murmurs, more to himself then Syd. "Not at all."

If she makes any sort of move, I'm done for. The glass moves nervously between his palms as he tries again not to notice her sundress clinging to breasts and softly draping around her long legs by staring at the sea. Right now, the only thing reigning him in is the fact she's probably more than a little drunk. He should stop, too...really. He pours himself another glass as he nods at her words. Keeping the team together this time. Another good reason to overlook Syd hitting on you while the mead is talking.

What the hell was she going to do with this man outside of throwing herself at him? Beating him over the head with a bat seemed like a good idea.

She sighed.

"Look, I know that I like you and outside of throwing myself at you I don't know how else to get that fact through that very thick skull of yours. You're totally not my type, but dammit, there's something about you that I...I can't even put it into words. I don't have the energy to play these types of games and I don't think you do either. I have a man who I didn't even know his last name until a few weeks ago showing up out of the blue and who may want to take my daughter away from me. You have a teenaged daughter showing up out of the blue and have to deal with that."

Syd stood up, with some wobbling, and looked at him. "When you finally get your shit together and decide what the hell you want, you know where to find me. I wouldn't wait too long."

With that she headed toward the stairs leading to the top of the cliff.

Her wrist is grabbed and she is turned around right into his arms. He looks half-panicked, but the look is morphing into something far more powerfully seductive.

"Name it." He says, hands moving slowly to her hips and gathering the material of that sundress between his fingers and barely keeping himself in check. "Any fantasy you ever had." He pulls her in closer and murmurs into her ear. "Consider it granted." Just do not go. "Because it has been everything I could do since Medieval Times to keep my hands and eyes off you."

Silly man. She wanted to tell him he should have said something a long time ago, but words would not come.

Her chest tightened and she couldn't breathe. Her blood pounded in her ears and she could barely hear the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Her heart raced a million miles an hour in her chest.

Then she was kissing him and her arms were around his neck.

Every stray thought he has had for the better part of a year regarding Syd's body flashes through his mind in an instant. He's not a kid, and this is not his standard show up and do the lines. He's not letting her get away this easily. He breaks off the kiss, but his hands keep moving with expert grace slowly down her legs, lifting her into his arms and her ear closer to his mouth. "I asked you a question, Sydney. Now, do I need to put you down, or are you going to tell me what turns you on?"

It was as if a dam had burst with that kiss and now she wanted nothing more than to feel his hands all over her body and he wanted waste time with talk. This man was going to be the death of her. She just knew it.

Words were almost impossible to form, but she did know how to get her point across in a way he would understand.

"From Here to Eternity," she mumbled in his ear. That beach scene was one of her all time favorite fantasies.

The smile is slow and large. He can be one of the best moments in her memory, and if he manages this she'll be a bright spot in his eternity.

He lowers her to her feet, drawing out the process, making every second a chance to slowly move his fingertips and mouth across the exposed skin of her arms, neck, and shoulders. He tickles her arms as he detaches them from his body with great reluctance as he steps back, his eyes committing her to memory and a plan of attack.

"Then," he says. "Run. The scene starts with running."

The shadow of the cliff cools his back. This is going to be the death of him, but she needs never to know that.
