Valentine's Day Massac...er...Dinner!
Everything Sammy knew about Valentine’s Day romance she learned from Nick. Flowers and candy. A really nice piece of jewelry. Reservations to Mom’s favorite restaurant. A late night slow dance on the terrace under the stars. Sneaking upstairs past the kid’s room and closing the door to the parents’ room. If she’d been dating a girl, she would’ve known exactly what to do, minus the kid part.

That Valentine’s Day was just around the corner didn’t really register with her. It wasn’t a holiday that she’d ever been involved with other than grade school card exchanges and ‘helping’ Dad pick out a gift for Mom. Also, she was distracted by a second request from Brendon Hill and this time he had a carrot to dangling in front of her. He would help her track down the escaped Zodiac members. Clearly she needed to talk to someone. This was what boyfriends were for, right?

He nods. "I know. I feel good about the work I do. I just doubt my father would understand," he shrugs. "But I know I do good work. I have to."

"If he loved you, he would understand," she said simply. It was obvious she'd never known any doubt on that subject with her own father.

"I'm glad it was Nightingale that carried me off the Empress' ship and covered me up. I don't think I could've lived it down if one of the other guys had taken me off. The teasing is enough. But there is one question that remains unanswered."

"Hopefully they're not that stupid, but stay alert, it could happen." She could take on anybody, but it was a nice feeling to have him take up for her.

"The question is, did Nightingale get a look at my tattoo?" The fancy clock face design had been on display with the tiny costume. She wondered because the idea of Qamar disappointed in her over something that she'd done on a drunken whim did bother her.

That answer said it all. Her guy thought about the right thing when she wasn't capable of it. That was something to remember for the future.

She smiled at him. "Are you busy studying later?"
