Aftermath: Daddy Issues
Namor had been surprisingly grateful for the assistance of the Fantastic Four and Alpha Flight, and once his own transportation had been sent for, had even thrown a feast for his victorious allies.  They would be all be going home soon.

But before that could happen, Namorhad asked to see Marrina.  Privately, away from the others.

Her birth-father.  Who didn't know.

She knocked, was bidden to enter, and entered the private chamber quietly.  "You...  wanted to see me, your highness?"

Namor's eyebrows rose slightly as Marrina revealed that she was named for her mother, his wife from years ago.

He simply stared at her for the longest time, as though he were looking for something in her face, in her eyes, that only he could see.

When she found the strength to tell him who she thought she was, though, Namor eyes widened slightly as he saw Marrina in a different light.

"I believe you." he said simply. The longer he thought about it, the more sense it made. Yes, he could have asked for proof, but he didn't believe this girl would say the words if she had any true reason to believe otherwise.

She was brave, like her mother.

"I always wondered if I would find any of you, any of our children. Somewhere along the way, I stopped hoping." he said, his tone low.

"If I had known where you were, Marrina, I would never have left you alone. If you know nothing else of me, I would have you know that. You would have grown up in my house, as a Princess of Atlantis. You are a princess of Atlantis, Marrina.

But, I cannot force you to accept that. So, I ask you: where do we go from here, you and I?"

Princess. She'd thought about that, logically understood that, when you got technical, she technically was one. But to hear it like that...

"I don't know," she said, after a moment. "I've got responsibilities, to Canada, and to Alpha Flight and my friends. But... I would like to get to know you better. To learn more about the Atlantean half of my heritage."

"I don't expect that you'll give up the life you already have for a new one with me as your father...but I welcome the chance to know you, and to show you that I am a man different from what many think of me.

I admit, I am difficult to know, and I keep few friends. I can be...difficult, vengeful, and proud, above all else." he says, looking away from her for a moment. Everything he says is what he's heard from others, both to his face and behind his back.

"But I am also loyal and caring. I am proud of who I am, who I have been, and where I come from. I am proud of the people I love. I was proud of your mother, the person and Queen she was, the friend to me she was, and I am glad that she and I had the time we did together." he says.

"And I am proud of you, Marrina. You stood in my defense, knowing what you knew about my...enmity of the surface world. You came to rescue me when you could have left it to anyone else.

I hope, in time, you will be proud to call me your father as well." he says. He smiles for a moment, the walks back across the room a small chest near the window where he first stood. He removes something from the chest, and returns to stand in front of Marrina.

"This was to be your mother's, before...her passing." he says, holding in both of his hands a necklace of small precious stones and shells. There is a golden crest at the bottom of this necklace, and he offers it to her.

"So long as you wear this, you will be known as my daughter, and a Princess of Atlantis. If you choose to return again at anytime, simply display this crest, and you will be admitted into my presence without delay." he says, holding it forth.

He silently hopes she will accept it.

Marrina hesitated only a moment. She had thought about this moment so many times over the years (the Smallwoods were her parents, there was never a question of that, nothing would change that) that now that she was actually here, she did not know how to react.

She carefully took the necklace, fastening it around her neck.

"Thank-you," she said, quietly, small tears in her eyes. All of this, the long lost father... it all made her think of the mother she would never know.

"No thanks is needed, Marrina." he says, smiling.

As if he'd heard that thought, he reaches out to touch a strand of her hair.

"And if you should ever have any questions about your mother, or her life here, you have only to ask. I will tell you anything you wish to know about her as long as you wish to listen." he says.

Marrina smiled a little, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. "I'd like that," she told him. "I'd like that a lot."
