Kaila stood outside the gate to Xavier's Institute for Higher Learning and looked at the intercom. She didn't think this was a good idea, but she could see Gabrielle's reasoning behind it. They knew practically nothing about the mutants living here and they knew very little on the next generation of X-Men.

Gabriella had sent her here to infiltrate the school and gather as much intelligence on the residents as possible. Shard was posing as a student coming for the summer semester. She didn't like the idea, but Gabriella had told her she was the only one who could do this.

Shard took a deep breath and pressed the button on the intercom.

"I've never been there. You'll have to tell me about it sometime." The kid seemed nice enough. Then again most at Xavier's were according to Gabriella and she had been counting on that to get Shard inside.

Shard was already wondering what this kid's powers were. Gabriella had instructed her to get as much information on everyone here and she was going to do just that. She noticed he was barefoot and wondered if it had something to do with his powers.

"Oh, it's wonderful. Except for the lousy economy in most of the surrounding places and the even lousier resource management. Clearing the rainforest for farmland has to be one of the dumbest ideas ever. With no trees to hold it down, the soil ends up nothing but worthless laterite soil. Sure it sculpts okayish -- not that I do, because no good disrupting those areas more than they already have been -- but it almost screams 'do not grow stuff in me'. So it's a bad economic cycle and bad for the habitats." Dawning realization that he's somehow gotten onto one of his pet causes. "Um...sorry about the rant."

"Well the thing is, see this -- " And Corey looked frantically before choosing some patch that wouldn't tear any plant roots or otherwise disrupt too much, and he waved his hand slightly to bring a couple layers of that small patch into the air. "Is some decent topsoil that has more actual proper dirt underneath. This kind of dirt can grow stuff. Try that in the rainforest? You get this totally dry, barren red and yellow stuff."
