A perfect day (open)
Syd was definitely in a good mood. She hummed quietly as she poured herself a glass of red wine.

The day couldn't have been any more perfect.

Morning had included a five mile jog followed by a light breakfast and a hot cup of masala chai. She took Zoey to her ballet class and watched the girls dance around in their tutus. They were so cute and adorable and Syd always loved watching them dance.

A quick lunch and then came the afternoon with taking Zoey to see The Tooth Fairy. A movie with The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, always made her day and put her in a good mood. Good enough that she didn't think of Simon once during the whole afternoon.

She treated her and Zoey to dinner at their favorite Indian restaurant. Syd didn't like eating out often, but it seemed like the kind of day to eat dinner out. Then they came home and curled up on the couch together to watch The Game Plan. Two movies with The Rock in them in one day was always a good thing in her book.

She spoke to Michael on the phone and they had set a day and time to go to the museum. Things couldn't go more right. Not even any chaos to manage. Definitely a really good day.

Zoey was now tucked in bed and sleeping and Syd was winding down with a glass of wine and a book or two.

Not a bad ending to a perfect day. Not at all.

Sarah had a glass of her own favorite wine in hand when she found Sydney. The older woman had a twinkle in her eye when she saw just how content Sydney really looked.

"Well you look like the cat who had the cream. Have a good day?"

Syd smiled. "Yes. I had a really good day. Spent the day out with Zoey and two Dwayne Johnson movies. I also made plans with Michael."

Sarah almost clapped. But she instead sipped her wine and smiled. "That's wonderful Syd. See? There's nothing wrong with getting set up. Mind you I would put my foot down if anyone tried setting me up. But you're young."

Sure Sarah is only in her late forties but she wears her age. She doesn't want to get her feet wet in the dating world though.

"What is it with people thinking I need to be dating?" she asked as she sipped her wine.

"You're young and good looking," Sarah says with both eyebrows raised.

Then she laughs and shakes her head. "Hon. Take it from me. You're young. You have a lot going for you. It's okay to have fun with a young man who also thinks that you have a lot going for you."

"It's complicated," Syd said. Michael was nice, interesting, and Syd knew she'd like spending time with him, but there was the whole Simon thing. Syd was still carrying a torch for him despite knowing that it wasn't going to go anywhere.

"Why?" Sarah takes a sip of her wine. She was willing to be a sound board here. That was probably why she made a good secondary den mother. Not only that but she treated everyone like they were part of her brood to some extent. "Talk to me. You listen to everyone else. I can be in your corner on this."

"I like Michael. He's nice, polite, good looking and we seem to share a lot of the same interests, but there's also someone else I'm interested in. I have no clue what's going on there and I don't think he's interested in me, but I'm still carrying a torch for him."

Ahhh so this is what Aridis had been bemoaning before. Sarah doesn't smile knowingly or give the game away at all. This is for Sydney and not for the blond bombshell of an archer.

"Well you are right. But you can keep your options open until you know what's going on with the other man. He might not know how to say 'Sydney, I'm really interested in you'." She sets down her wine glass. "I have to say that frequently men get tongue tied. That shouldn't stop you from going on a few casual dates with Michael. Maybe even drop hints around the other guy that it would be nice if he took you out. Maybe he'll take a hint."

"Oh I'm going to keep doing things with Michael," Syd said with a nod. "No doubt about that, it's just the other guy isn't interested in me. I've told him I like him and...well things aren't going to change."

Sarah actually face-palms.

"I'm not sure I want to know what happened. I might swat him," she mumbles. Then blanches. "Sorry. Aridis is quite put out you two aren't dating. Apparently she likes match making. I wouldn't say anything about Michael around her for a little while."

She holds her fingers just a little bit apart. "But I'm happy you met Michael. If he's a nice man it should be at least fun for you."

"Thanks. If things go well, which I hope they do, I may bring Michale by some time. When I think the natives won't scare him." The Defenders weren't for the faint of heart.

Sarah actually laughs.

"That's why I don't let Griffen know when I'm dating," she says with a wink. "As smart as he gets when the mood strikes him he can pull out lots of tricks to scare off suitors. Now if he had the team back him up...?"

Oh man.

"Yeah. Exactly. Which is why I won't be bringing Michael around until I think he's ready to handle them."

"Smart woman," Sarah compliments with a small chuckle.

She didn't feel so smart. Not when it came to stuff like this. If she were smart and brave, she'd just corner Simon tell him how she felt and lay a big kiss on him.

"I guess," she sighed. "I don't feel smart most of the time."
