Celebrating the legal drinking age.
Sammy's birthday gift to herself was skipping her morning workout and spending the time in bed reading the Christmas gift from Iason, with a megamug of coffee nearby and pad of paper to make notes on. Her plans weren't any different from the previous birthdays. She would go to class later, then have an early dinner with whichever parent was free that night. It would be Mom since Dad was on the helicarrier. She'd already received Dad's note with instructions to buy herself something pretty on him. Funny Dad. Pretty was something matte black and a trigger that was juuuuuust right. With Qamar in Haiti, there was no reason to change the usual plans.

Still, it would have been nice to find a hovercar in the garage with a great big red bow.

Sammy sat up, stuck her notepad in the book and closed it. The book was then tucked under a pillow. "Thanks. What are you doing up so early?"

"Some idiot put Investment Analysis too early for my taste. Wanted to handle this beforehand." She hands her the box.
"I thought at length about the perfect outfit, but then I decided to go with something smaller."

Cushioned inside the box is an ASP 9 mm (right-handed).

Sammy's eyes widened in excitement when she lifted the top of the box. "Oh, it's beautiful!" It was in her hands a second later and getting a thorough examination. Sammy knew her handguns.

"I'll need you to help me pick out the perfect outfit to wear with it soon."

"Mom's tired of me raiding her closet for outfits to wear out in public. I can't blame her, but her taste is just so good I wanted to ride her skirt tails." Sammy's taste ran to comfortable, not necessarily classy. Vernique's was just as perfect as Mom's. "You have the eye to make sure I don't match up the wrong shades."

Vernique preened. "Thank you. I've always valued your gift for accuracy. Although when it comes to shades, I think for you, it's hard to go wrong with a classic black and white ensemble...especially with a classic spy pistol."

Oh yes...pistol! Sammy admired the handgun again. Her 'ooooh, shiny!' moments were always reserved for the best in firearms. "The last time I tried to buy a little black dress, there seemed to be a dozen shades of black. The shoes nearly did me in. I finally swiped a pair of Mom's. I better get them back before she misses them."
