Attack on Xavier's
Penny stepped out of the cab and didn't look back to see if Winterkill and Breakneck were getting out. They would follow, of that she had no doubt. They had a mission to do. Penny smiled. They'd have fun doing it too.

Penny smiled more as she practically bounced up to the gate. Makeup covered the bruise she had because of that bastard breaking her nose. Anger bubbled up, but she pushed it back. She couldn't afford to let real emotions get the best of her. She had to play a part right now.

Smiling into the security camera, Penny pressed the buzzer.

Two can play this game, though its going to be a rough one if he's going to get them out. Were it just him, he'd draw himself out of dreams, but the telepaths' safety is paramount.

He fights back, shielding himself from her attacks, though its a strain, and trying to find his way to her own traumas, so long as he's interacting with her dreams. This won't be fun for either of them.

The nightmares get worse as he goes deeper.

But his own assault on her is starting to take some effect.

"I don't think so...." Veronyca threw up more defenses around her, attempting to lace her worst nightmares with his.

This quickly makes the dreamscape surreal. Lucas hasn't had a nightmare since his powers manifested, so the scape fills with childish fears. Most of which the teen isn't so afraid of, but they're still from his own mind, leaving the effects perhaps not as potent as she might have hoped, but also dredging up fears long forgotten or left behind.
He shifts the dreamscape about himself as often as he can, shielding himself and trying to maintain concentration lest he be overwhelmed and lose track of the dreamers. Even once he gets there, while Jean and Xavier's nightmares may not be Lucas' fears, they're still potent, and very real here.
Sometimes worst of all, when her nightmares enter the scene, the disaster scenes she forsees are populated by his childhood traumas, and visions of Xavier's fears, and Jean's own worries of the Phoenix overwhelming her again.

Its all he can do to try and be the calm, light center in the midst of it all while his dreamself suffers assaults from all sides.

He will endure. He has to. Its a contest of wills now.

The nightmares of her, Jean, Xavier, and Lucas all seem to mix together and get much more worse as every time he reenters the dreamscape. The visions of the horrible, dark futures that she forsees seeming extremely real and vibrant.

She will not fail. The light will not overcome the darkness.

He has a singular advantage here. And possibly his only one. She's strong, no doubt about it. Her gift is a powerful one, and as much of a denizen of dreams as he can be, he's still grounded in the real world. Even his dream avatar is sweating now as he carries the bodies back towards the sense of his body he has, where he can take refuge and ward them better. It still seems an impossible way off, carrying two dead-weight bodies, and with the dreamscape twisting and shifting.

But the light does not have to overcome the darkness, much as he doesn't tell her this. Eventually, he's hoping the darkness will turn and swallow itself, her own dark dreams, when exposed, obviously having some affect on her as well.
The light does not need to win. It only needs to endure.
