It's Not About Diplomacy, It's About Dignity
It's a relatively quiet day in Latveria, when the saucer appears over the castle, humming with energy and shining brightly as a holographic display appears before it. A gorilla bellows in dynamic tones.

"All shall bow before Woo Yen Jet! Master of the Golden Horde and The Atlas Foundation, whose visage silences even crying babies! He who is Khan of the Eternal Empire! He would have words with whoever rules over this land!"

Damn but there ain't nothin' like a good entrance. Even if he's spewing out scripted lines.

Ken Hale's worldly enough to know that "considers him a good man" isn't all that concrete an answer.

"Just coffee, please. Now, here's the thing. The whole 'underworld' thing? That's old regime, and it's been priority one under Jimmy's leadership to clean out the cobwebs. It's a kinder, gentler Atlas. We're here to help.

Of course, we can't just come out and say that to the world, which is where my visit here comes in."

Coffee is sent for -- along with tea -- and then there's a pause as Kristoff considers him.

"You want me to help you launder resources for legitimate causes to maintain a criminal reputation?" the boy asks with a touch of consternation.

"Pretty much." Ken sips the coffee. "Mm. Good stuff, thanks." He sets the cup back down and continues.

"We think it stands to benefit us both. Latveria gets back some of the resources that got burned through in the recent... complications, Atlas channels its funds into good work.

No offense, but a little more than half the masked world thinks Doom's just running the long con, instead of the short. It sucks, I know."

"And what, exactly, gives you confidence in the legitimacy of my actions, then?"

Ken smiles, sipping more of his coffee. "Kid... I know my good looks cover it up, but I'm an old man. I been around the block plenty. I know a good man when I meet one, or see how he conducts himself.

And now that I'm sure yer fascinated enough by me, I'll add that I did my homework. Talked to people who know ya'.

You're old for your age." He shrugs. "Like most a' my buddies."

Kristoff sips his tea. "...Thank you."

"We are pursuing several very different avenues. What direction would you like your resources to take?"

"Well... we've got a really vocal on-board respect for oceanic clean-up. Besides that, we like direct food and medical supply distribution to impoverished areas, none a' that nonsense with handing it over to the local gov and expecting it to still reach the people who need it.. Libraries, hospitals, homeless shelters. Simple stuff that hopefully can steer clear of too much of the local authorities.

Jimmy's basically got a budget surplus that he wants to make sure doesn't wind up in idle hands. New guard versus old guard situation."

A sneer. "Of course not. Sustainable agricultural aid directly to local villagewomen. This was the case even with the initial donations from the treasury. I actually have several ideas for marine-cleansing technology on the side right now."

"Sounds good." Ken nods. "Sorry again about the whole dramatic entrance and spewing of titles before. Besides keeping up appearances, we've got a dragon to keep happy."

"Understood. But I must say, you were fortunate the Master iss not here. Further ultimata and warning shots might have come into play."

"Yeah, well, I got an alien and a killer robot. I get by." He smirked, then extended a hand. "You're a good face for this country, you know that, Doc?"

"I will... take that in the spirit in which I believe it was intended, Hale. Thank you." He shakes.

Ken just laughed and slapped Kristoff on the shoulder as he got up. "You kids these days... get through an entire march through the jungle or talk about politics without even gettin' around to askin' me how come I'm a talkin' gorilla." He chuckles again and starts heading for the door. "Nice talkin' to you. I'll see myself out."

Kristoff gritted his teeth slightly -- he hated univited contact -- and Hans saw Ken out anyway.

Still, that could have gone much worse.
