Trying to find a weak spot on the Armadillo is a trick - even his eyelids show signs of being armored. The procedure was, and remains incredibly painful, but Malus is also very thorough when given permission to create his own personal bodyguard.

Apparently not feeling overly threatened by a guy with a sword, he goes right for the armor, swinging a massive clawed hand at Natasha.
