In a New York Minute....
They arrived in New York a few seconds after leaving Moscow thanks to Blink. Quinn could have done transporting duty, but there was nothing wrong with sharing the work. It actually felt good to be moving again. They had spent a few days in Moscow while Wanda cleared the way for her to leave for a short while.

While they were waiting Natasha had filled them in with more information about this world and how bad it was. As bad as it was, there were a few small spots of hope. Natasha, God she was hot and Quinn would have shagged her in a second if Patriot wasn't already doing that, had told them that someone connected to New York's Hellfire Club was helping and harboring mutants. The identity of the "Angel of New York" was unknown, but Quinn believed they could find him or her.

There was also mention of Project Bifrost that the Red Skull was working on. There were no details about it since Natasha hadn't been able to find much about it. She said she had nearly been killed trying to get what little information she did get. Magneto had under the advice of an adviser decided not to pursue that matter. Quinn would bet money it had something to do with Thor.

Thor. Quinn bet if Thor had come to this Earth like he had in Quinn's dimension and others from the sound of what his teammates said, maybe the world wouldn't be like this. Or at least as bad.

Quinn looked around. It was quite obvious that this wasn't the New York he knew and loved. "Well mates, what's on our agenda besides getting some cash and finding a place to crash?"

Bucky rolls his eyes. He pulls a flat piece of metal out of his pocket and uses it to pop off the panel of the intercom.

A few rewires later, and there's a buzz as the door pops open. Patriot pushes open the door and boldly walks right in.

He had just settled in to watch The Price is Right when there's this guy standing in his living room. Finally, Fisk had sent someone to finish the job - and he was competent. "Better door then a window," he sneers, not bothering to move from his well-worn executive chair.

"Tony," he says simply.

Yes, Patriot has had assassin's training, and that's reflected in his bearing, but his stance is one who isn't planning to pull a trigger.

"I'm a busy man." He used to be, at least. "So just say or do what you're going to do and leave."

"Busy?" Patriot scoffs. "Really? Busy watching The Price is Right and drinking yourself into a stupor?"

He glances out the window. "I'm here to wake you up, Tony. And I can do it because, sadly, I know you better than anyone else." At least, on this world, that was probably sadly close to true.

"Oh great, a stalker." Despite the bluster this is novel, so Patriot clearly has his skeptical attention.

"The world isn't going to Hell, Tony... it's already there." His eyes narrow. "I know that you've built something. Something that can make a difference. I know that you've done this, Tony, because despite everything, despite the differences we've had over the years, I know that under the bluster, under the mistrust... you're a hero. You want to make sure that the Right Thing gets done."

He grabs Tony's bottle. "But this shit makes you scared!" And he throws it across the room to shatter it on the wall. "So you hide, afraid that if you do your best, you'll fail! And the world burns!"

"What the hell do you know?!" Tony is on his feet and in his face. "I'm in the gutter, but at least it's my gutter. My piece of the world. Who the hell are you to be telling me anything?"

Patriot meets him, face to face. "Because you can save them all, Tony." He points out the window to the rest of the world. "You could have made a difference, but you instead you hide, afraid you'll fail! I came in here looking for a hero, but instead I found a coward, hiding in a bottle, drinking his life away instead of helping the people who need it!"

He makes a disbelieving noise. "You know jack shit," he murmurs, sinking back to his chair. "Shoot me, or go home."

"It's not too late," Patriot replies. "There are people who could use your help this very moment."

He turns head out of the apartment, but he pauses at the door.

"And even if you don't believe in yourself, you can help them. It will work."

Roxanne waited out front. She would know what to say to a big fancy guy like Stark, and she got the sense whatever Patriot was gonna yap to him about was gonna be personal. from the the look on his face as he exits the place, it looks like her hunch was right on.

"You look like 10 miles of bad road." She looks back at the window. Stark is like a ghost behind the curtains for just a moment and then is gone again. "But he looks like a scared ol' bitty."

"I've done all I can," he replies, just loud enough for Stark to hear if he's listening. "The rest is up to him."
