Dory moves toward the edge of the alley to keep watch for anything that might be attracted to Quinn's magic. It also provides him with an excuse to avoid the spell-caster. Not that Dory particularly dislikes the man or anything, it's just that spell-casters make him homesick and that much more aware of the ring in his pocket. Especially after what happened to Sarah.
