There will be blood
It was going to be a dark day in Star City.

Or at least, it was going to be a dark day for those that dared to tangle with the League of Assassins.

The plan was set in motion, and the League was on the move.

They each had their mission. Vesper had already done his part and freed Bane from where they had been holding him. The guards at the Super-Max were currently keeping their hands full with a full-prison riot. It had been discovered that Slade Wilson was no longer at the prison, having been broken out by a team of individuals sometime previous, though that was neither here nor there.

Getting a location for where Red Robin and his allies would be was difficult, but the Informant wasn't just your everyday run-of-the-mill hacker, she was one of the best.

And now, Morgaine, along with her brother's decoy and the rest of the League, were in a helicopter headed straight towards Outsider's headquarters.

"The plan is simple," Morgaine said, briefing her team for a final time before they began their attack. "While the Demon's Head has instructed us to kill anyone that stands in our way, we are merely providing a distraction while he rescues his Lady from her imprisonment. Do not hesitate do deliver a killing strike, but wiping out the entire team is not required of us at this time. We will keep them busy until the Demon's Head informs us that he has Lian, and then we will make our getaway.

Understood?"

A chorus of yeses arose from the team, and Morgaine nodded. "Excellent. We will be approaching the target shortly."

When the helicopter was in within range of the Outsiders headquarters, a rocket was fired at one of the windows. Not one to bring the entire place to the ground, but it would definitely set the alarms off, at the very least.

The team reached the drop off point, and the League of Assassins came in through the blown-out window. Morgaine pulled out both of her swords, a bloodthirsty grin crossing her face.

"Knock-knock."

At the sound of Damien's voice, Lian could have sworn that her heart stopped beating for a second.

She could do this. She had do this.

She knocked another arrow in her bow, before stepping out into the open. She didn't fire at Damien, but she didn't lower her bow, either.

"Beloved, it's me. Please lower the bow." Damien says, looking at her with confusion. Had they tortured her? Brainwashed her against him?

He would slaughter Red Robin for this if Morgaine left anything of him to kill.

"Lian, I came to take you and our baby home, where you belong. The League is here and Red Robin is fighting a decoy while I save you. You and I must help James kill this Atlantean fool and then we can go." Damien implores.

"Please, we do not have much time. The entire League is fighting in your name." he says.

How the hell did he find out?

Lian shook a little, but held her stance.

"I really don't want to fight you, Damien," she said. "Call them off. Call of the League, leave, and we can pretend that this never happened."

"My god, what did they /do/ to you?" Damien asks, taking another step forward. She looked...scared of him. Why would she be scared of him, unless they'd tampered with her mind?

"Lian, please, it's me. I love you. You have no reason to be afraid of me, or the League. We are your family." Damien says, trying to get through to her.

Lian took another step back. "Please Damien," she pleaded with him. "Just go."

"I am not leaving you and our child here like this!" Damien yells, his eyes fixed on Lian.

"You are my wife. We are bound. You...you said you loved me." he says, the world suddenly spiraling out of his understanding. Why was she doing this? She knows he can protect her from anyone; why would she try to send him away?

The report of the gun causes his head to turn and Damien watches the Atlantean fall over dead.

"Lian, your captor is dead. Now we can go!" he says, reaching for her.

And I do, she wanted to say back.

Lian dropped her bow, pushing past Damien when he told her that Cerdian was dead.

No, no, no, no.

"Cerdian!" She dropped to her knees, taking his body in her arms, cradling his head, is if the bleeding would somehow stop.

He couldn't die. Not yet, not now.

"C'mon on Cerdian," she said, the tears swelling up in her voice. "Please don't die...please don't die..."

Damien thought Lian was rushing into his arms when she came at him, but the name she yelled wasn't his. Not his, like she'd yelled so many times before.

She was running away from him...and to another man. It dawned on him, only now, that Lian Nguyen was not the woman he'd known. Had she ever really existed or was it some sort of trick? How had the Outsiders chosen the League to infiltrate?

Why would Lian go so far to hurt him, when all he'd ever done was love her?

He presses the button on his communicator to speak to Morgaine.

"Morgaine, Assassins...retreat." Damien says, steel coating his tone. The Demon's Head has no heart to break or feelings to hurt. The Demon's Head is invincible, implacable, and immortal.

But Damien Wilson, the man, is crushed, likely beyond repair. His wife was never truly his and he sees that now.

The choppers land and he directs his people to grab James and get him onto one, as he gets on to the other. He waits for his sister to report in, unwilling to leave the only person in his life who has never betrayed him.

"Take us to forward base and tell Lady Vic to meet me in my chambers as soon as she is available." Damien says.

"Sir, Lady Vic reports that the power source was found and secured." the pilot reports.

"Very well. Let me know when the Demon's Fang reports in." he says, looking down at Lian as the choppers fly away.

The Demon's Head does not cry. Ever.

But Damien Wilson will, someday.
