"The fuck?!" Vesper was surprised at his spear not going through his target. When Joey retaliated, Vesper had to let go of the spear to dodge in time. He rolled on the ground and pulled out a poison dart, which he tossed at Joey.
He was hoping that it might have a better chance of penetration. If not, he was screwed.
