Hermes and Jai West
Hermes, son of Zeus and Maia, was the patron god of commerce, thieves, travelers, sports, and border crossings and also the messenger of the gods, skidded to a halt in front of Jai West.

Jai is a great student in school, but his Greek Mythology has always been a little fuzzy. Still, he listens intently.

"The Titans are bad news. Even I can agree with that. I'll help however I can, but...what can you do? I should probably know in case I need to practice this. Oh...and between us, the Gods aren't known for being very nice to humans.

This isn't going to come back and bite us, is it? I mean, you guys aren't going to decide later that we screwed up somehow and take it out on us, are you?" Jai asks.

/That/ got Jai's attention. He's only dreamed of ever being able to catch his dad in a race.

And despite what Iris always said, the two of them had never been able to outrun each other. The idea that he might be faster than /either/ of them was appealing.

Why did this stuff only happen when the world was in trouble?

"Okay, well, I'm all about helping save the world, so count me in. When do I start and how do we go about this?" Jai asks.

For a long moment, Jai didn't feel any different before. He was about to ask if that was all there was to it, because he had to get back to school. He still had finish up a few math problems for his Pre-Calc class; the last five had burned his brain pretty badly even though th answers were 18, y= 2, x= 7, -2, and 11.

/Wait a minute. I didn't know those last night./

Jai looked at Hermes, then at the street behind them. Everyone seemed to stand still, like they were frozen. Then everyone moved, so slowly, so minutely that Jai blinked again because he wasn't sure he caught it.

"How fast did you say I would be again?" Jai asks in shock.

After finishing his day at school (which went by so slowly that Jai thought he was going to lose his mind), he checked the time on his phone. It was just after two. Traya should be out of her classes right now, shouldn't she?

He'd surprise her at her dorm.

The run from Central City to Metropolis was about three minutes, give or take. Jai was curious to see how much time he could after Hermes' upgrade on his powers. Finding a secluded spot near the back of the school, Jai drops and takes off toward Traya's.

One minute later, Jai is in front of her building. He hadn't even had time to think about what he'd say when he got to the door, he'd gotten there so fast. He was also shocked to realize that he hadn't exerted himself at all.

He knocks on her door, hoping she's here right now.

There was the brief sound of a deadbolt being slid back before the door opened.

"Jai!" Traya beamed. "What're you doing here?"

The inside of her room (single occupancy, thank-you really good scholarship), or at least what can be seen around her, is fairly typical of a college dorm. Might be just a bit on the messy side, there's a bag of laundry needing to be done, that kind of thing.

	"My girlfriend stays in this dorm, too, actually. I was on my way to see her but you were more interesting." Jai grins. "But something crazy happened today and I needed to talk to someone about it so I came here right after school." he says. Then he notices that she hasn't let him in yet. "Did I come at a bad time? Jai walks in without further ado.

"Okay, so I was out getting lunch and...Hermes stops me. Yes, Hermes from Greek mythology. He says that the Titans have escaped from their bonds, which is what's behind all the monster attacks and recent crazy stuff going on all over the world." Jai tells her.

"Then, he says he wants me to be his avatar and use his powers to fight the Titans." Jai whispers. "I didn't believe him at first, but then he touched me and...Traya, the world is moving so slowly right now, I can barely stand it.

But I ran here in under a minute to do. From Central City." he emphasizes. "My /dad/ can do that without trying hard. I did it today without trying hard...and Hermes said I'm faster than anyone in my family.

How crazy is that?" he asks her.

"Well, I'm supposed to use it to help stop the Titans. I...I haven't though of what would happen beyond that. I don't think Hermes is going to go on vacation from being a god just so I can be the Fastest Boy Alive." Jai says, sitting down, then asking her to sit with him.

"It's insane, Traya. I always thought I knew what fast was before...but now, I feel like I've been living with lead weights on my ankles my whole life." he tells her.

	Traya snuggled up to him. "I'd like that," she told Jai. She'd been so worried when he'd gone into the icy water. And now he was being drafted to deal with the Titans? That was even worse. "I find that kind of cute that /you/ joined a Tornado Chasers group when we all know that /I'm/ the one usually chasing a tornado." Jai smiles.

"How is the Biaylan Students Association? Do you think maybe you'll get to go to Biaya?" Jai asks. He's aware that she's only been there as an infant that her heritage is important to her, so he'd like to see her do that if she can.

"Bet you usually catch it too," she said, playfully.

"It's nice," Traya told him. "About half of the people there are like me, adopted, and the the rest are either from there and just going to school here, have parents who lived there under the Queen Bee took over, or stuff like that."

She went on, "But yeah. We're looking to go towards the end of the school year. Already started saving up for it."

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure that my mom's going to have the same kind of freakout when I go to college, though she gets this weird look on her face sometimes when she looks at Irey and me. Then she starts crying.

Dad says we grew up too fast." Jai shrugs.

"So, what's the food like around here? I'm starving." he grins. Of course, Jai's always hungry, but Traya knows this.
