Date night
Hope checked herself over in the mirror another time while she waited for Rex to come and get her.

When he said he wanted to take her out for her birthday, she assumed that they'd go out to a bar. Or spar, then go out to the bar. Then he said he wanted to take her somewhere nice.

Hope tore through her closet, looking for something "date worthy". She wasn't sure how nice where they were going was, but she'd managed to find a nice blue dress that she'd worn to a couple of nice parties.

Hope finished smoothing her hair for the last time when the doorbell rang.

A smile on her face, Hope went to open it.

The trap triggers the moment Hope's fingers touch the card. The Omega Symbol triggers from half-a-galaxy away and Hope vanishes from Rex's sight.

She reappears in the parking lot outside the restaurant, less than thirty feet from the man who sent them the bottle of champagne...and twenty Parademons.

He dispels his illusion and reveals himself to be Desaad. A Boom Tube opens next to him and Granny Goodness steps out, followed by Kalibak.

"Happy Birthday, Hope Free! Your master, Darkseid, wishes to gift you with leadership of the Female Furies on this most joys day!" Granny smiles.

"Take her." Kalibak commands as Desaad scurries behind him.

The parademons attack at once.

	Hope narrowed her eyes. "Like hell," she snarled. The person who's SUV she just picked up better have some damn good insurance, as she hurled it at the parademons. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Five or six of the parademons immediately have a Really Bad Night. The others rush at her with their taser-staffs drawn, thrusting at Hoope to try to bring her down for their masters. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Hope was cursing herself for not bringing her Mega-Rod. The ONE time she told herself she didn't need it, and Darkseid decided to ruin her birthday. And her first date with her boyfriend.

She couldn't fight in this dress. Hope quickly ripped the skirt so it was past her knees, jumping back to avoid the taser staffs.

If they thought she was going down without a fight? They could forget it.

	Kalibak growls and rushes forward with his mace, tired of watching these parademons fail. "Move aside! I'll humble this wench myself!" he roars, swinging at Hope with all his might. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Kalibak's swing connected, and Hope stumbled backward. She rubbed her jaw. It took a lot to hurt her, and that hurt like hell. "I have a message for your master," she said, a grin on her face. She responded with a powerful punch to Kalibak's jaw. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

The punch takes Kalibak by surprise, causing him to stagger back a couple of steps, but he quickly recovers, wiping his mouth.

"Hm. Feisty. I hate feisty." he says, roaring a challenge. He moves a Hope again with deceptive speed for one of his bulk. He feints as if he'll swing from his right, then lashes out with a kick to her mid-section, attemping to double her over so that he can bring his mace down on the back of her skull.

	Hope was truly caught off-guard by Kalibak's sudden move. The kick connected, sending her doubling over. Before she could attempt to get back up, Kalibak's mace connected with her skull. Hope could feel the blackness starting to close in on her. She spat in Granny Goodness's face before passing out. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Kalibak is about to hit Hope again after she passes out, but Granny Goodness and Desaad pull him away, earning them snarls from him. "Parademons, gather her up and bring her. We must prepare her." Kalibak says, opening a Boom Tube and stalking through it to return to Apokolips. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

The Parademons lift Hope from the ground and drag her away through the portal as Rex finally wins his way free of his attackers inside the restaurant.

The last thing he sees is Hope, unconscious and battered as they take her away. He runs toward them, intending to follow them through the portal, but it closes before he can get to them.

"HOPE!" he rages, falling to his knees.

He's got to get the team on this, and Avia.

Worst of all, he's got to explain to Hope's mother and father that he just allowed their daughter to get taken by a madman.

For him, that's even worse than getting his ass kicked would have been.
