A Good Talk
Sally Roth's dads rode with her on the train to Gotham. It was one of their more awkwardly quiet family trips ever, though she supposed it was better than going to school like this.
Her stepdad tried to talk to her reassuringly as she hunched herself over in her Granny Flores's overcoat. It wasn't particularly cold, but it was the best defense she could think of against the turned heads.

Eventually, they reached Gotham. Her dads helped her find the home of the lady Mr. Blood had mentioned, and then headed off to deal with some of her father's business stuff, get some food, and have a long talk of their own. Her stepdad initially wanted to stay with her at Miss Craft's, but her father didn't think it was a good idea. "It's not like you'll understand any of it," he'd said, and then silenced the oncoming angry retort with whispers he thought Sally couldn't hear, about making it a 'girl thing' to make it easier on her.

So Salome Roth was standing in Victoria Craft's doorway.

"A useful perspective, I've found," Victoria replied.

She considered something for a moment, then got up and retrieved a book from the near-by bookshelf. Careful inspection would reveal the first three shelves were full of ordinary volumes on education theory, classroom activities, and the like, while the last contained books with black binding and occasionally strange lettering.

"This particular volume deals specifically with succubi, what they are capable of, and their limitations, and the like. You may find it useful."

"The best advice I can give you the time is two-fold. Firstly, you must not deny your own nature. If you resist your urges when they first occur, they will only amplify to the point where you will lose control. What happened to the boy is unfortunate... but far preferable to other options. Secondly... is to advise simple caution. I sense something, I cannot yet determine quite what, but something rather powerful in the mystic currents about you. "A pleasure to meet you both," she told them. "I was happy to render what assistance I could."

Once all her seated, she began. "I will be frank with both of you. At the moment, there is precious little that can be done. Trying to defy or change something or someone's basic nature inevitably results in disaster. I am going to continue to consult with my colleagues, and we may be able to determine an alternative source of energy... but in the meantime, Salome will continue to hunger for and require life energy."

"Provided she does not experience injury or undue exertion, this need should not manifest for some time again. You can minimize outbreaks... but they will occur."

Sit and listen. Jude just frowns.

Thomas Flores's dark hand darts out to grab his stepdaughter's and looks at Victoria with a degree of confusion about the whole thing. "Is she only going to be able to do it to people she.... affects? Can't Jude and I help her with it so she doesn't have to worry about causing trouble?"

"Daddy, it's not like donating blood. It's just...not," Sally mutters, hunching over.

"Not at this time, Mr. Flores," Victoria tells him. "And I would not recommend it in any case. Prolonged exchanges of energy between any two individuals, even disregarding your daughter's nature, often carry undesirable side effects with them."

She frowned, before deciding to push on with the explanation. "For her own health, both physical and mental, Salome will need to prey upon those she is able to affect."

	Sally can tell there's a story in that frown somewhere. One she doesn't want to hear, and Miss Craft probably doesn't particularly doesn't want to tell, but may come up eventually anyway.
