The Heist
Edge City was home to one of the few Wayne Enterprises technical depots in the American Northwest, and Damien knew that the Grand Design would need parts of the best quality for maximum output. The machine is nearly completed, but so much remained to be done. Tonight, he would kill two birds with one stone.

He would obtain the parts needed for the machine and test the loyalty of the League of Assassins' newest member. Lian Harper had made herself indispensable to him over the past week, but Damien was still wary of her. Morgaine still advocated murdering her (in her sleep was Morgaine's favorite suggestion), but Damien could not yet drop the hammer.

He hoped that Lian would prove up to tonight's task and handed her the binoculars so that she could see the their target from the top of the cliffs several miles above the facility. The pair of them, along with seven others, would rappel down the cliffside and into the valley to infiltrate the building.

"Once we have procured our items, we will exit the building and head for the chopper. It will be here on time. We will spare no civilians who stand in our way. Do you understand our mission, Lian?" Damien asks his Head of Security.

"There are many who would disagree with you, my dear. However, I ask because I have long researched methods of unlocking the power of foresight. How much could we learn, could we improve ourselves if we could only know what was down the line?" he asks her, pulling her close to him.

"What about medicine? How much hope could we give people with terrible diseases, like AIDS or cancer, if we could tell them that they will see a cure in their lifetime? How much could we help them if we could communicate with someone who could tell us how to help ourselves, Lian?

I believe I have found a way to achieve this." Damien says finally.

"You mean...you've actually been looking into this?" She was interested. Basic laws of time- messing with the future was never a good idea.

"You can do this? Actually pinpoint when it's going to happen? Not just give them a glimpse that it IS going to happen. Because just giving someone a glimpse of their future as opposed to giving them a glimpse and telling them WHEN it's going to happen? Kind of different things there, Damien."

"The process is not perfected, Lian. I am still gathering data and determining what is necessary to make this happen. Still, some home is better than no hope at all, isn't it?" he asks her.

"My grandfather researched the idea of shifting human consciousness forward into the future, so that everyone can see how much brighter and better the world can be. He believed that if people could see their potential, they would be inspired to use it to bring about the utopia that humanity should already have by now." Damien says, looking at her.

"Think of it, Lian. We have all manner of advanced alien races visiting this planet or trying to conquer it regularly. Yet we, as a race, are incapable of reaching the stars for more than minutes or days at a time, despite all of the vast resources this world possesses. We still use fuels and energy that destroy our world, rather than actively develop sources of clean energy that would allow our children, and their children to inherit the Earth." he says, and there is no mistaking the passion in his voice. He had always felt strongly about all of these things and his role in providing them to the world.

"The technology to achieve this exists, Lian. It has been done before, in small stages. I aim to bring this to the entire world, and show the leaders of this world that they /can/ and /will/ enact change that benefits us all, or they will be replaced by those who can." he says.

"I intend to change the world, Lian. My grandfather believed that lowering the world's population was the first step in creating his utopia. While I believe a lower population would aid in such, I also believe that using everyone available benefits us more." Damien says.

"Imagine what the world could be if everyone were united in cause instead of fighting each other over boundaries. I know that I can unite the world in a common cause with the correct motivation. The League of Assassins is what we are now, but I do not intend for us to remain as such, always." he hints.

"No, I do not. Do you know how much administration would be involved in such a task? 'The wise man seeks only to master his world. The Fool seeks to master the whole world, without mastery of self'." Damien says.

"I have no interest in being king of the world, Lian. I do wish to live in a world that has no fear of death through war, famine or disease. If a man is just, and does his job well, he will be paid fairly and allowed to go his way. If a man commits a crime against his neighbor, he is judged swiftly and without hesitation. The lawful have no need to fear the law, or that is how it should be.

In this day and age, however, how often do you see the guilty go free while the innocent are punished? This has led to the proliferation of vigilantism and the rise of what is called the superhero." Damien tells her, kissing her lips.

"The League's purpose is not to rule the world, but to insure that the world will rule itself."

"We're all a little insane," Lian said, kissing him.

"For no child to have to go to bed at night wondering if it'll be their last. For them not to live in fear everyday, wondering if this will be the day that they die. To question whether or not there's a damn soul on this earth that cares about them." Lian was silent for a moment. "There's a lot of things I can't stand, but I can never see how someone can just abuse a child."

"I also abhor child abuse." Damien says, thinking of Morgaine. "I donate to several charities that help abused children. I learned that one of them was using them as slave labor while pretending to save them.

That organization no longer exists." Damien tells her.

"Some day, no child will ever feel that way, Lian. I am working toward that end with all that I am trying to accomplish."

	A shiver went down her spine. "Two, actually," she said, "One on each hip." If he looked, he'd see them.Her tattoos weren't so big that they took up her entire hip, but they weren't so small that you'd miss them, either. They were just the right size, for her. 	"Oh, I wish it was that simple. No, my darling, I cannot scar. If I got tattos, they would simply heal over and my skin would appear good as new within days." he says simply.
