The Heist
Edge City was home to one of the few Wayne Enterprises technical depots in the American Northwest,  and Damien knew that the Grand Design would need parts of the best quality for maximum output. The machine is nearly completed, but so much remained to be done. Tonight, he would kill two birds with one stone.

He would obtain the parts needed for the machine and test the loyalty of the League of Assassins' newest member. Lian Harper had made herself indispensable to him over the past week, but Damien was still wary of her. Morgaine still advocated murdering her (in her sleep was Morgaine's favorite suggestion), but Damien could not yet drop the hammer.

He hoped that Lian would prove up to tonight's task and handed her the binoculars so that she could see the their target from the top of the cliffs several miles above the facility. The pair of them, along with seven others, would rappel down the cliffside and into the valley to infiltrate the building.

"Once we have procured our items, we will exit the building and head for the chopper. It will be here on time. We will spare no civilians who stand in our way. Do you understand our mission, Lian?" Damien asks his Head of Security.

Lian had been keeping things strictly professional with Damien. No more private dinners, no more dancing in underground gardens, no more chocolate rum pie.

Though chocolate rum pie wouldn't be so hard to live without.

Still, she'd only met with him to discuss business matters. And while that was a lot, she made sure never to meet with him for longer than needed.

"Understood," Lian said, making sure that she had everything in order.

She seemed colder to him, more distant, and while it was somewhat annoying, it was also exciting. She seemed to go out of her way to spend the least time with him she could.

He was affecting her; he could tell.

"Excellent. We communicate with hand-signals from this point forward. We move in two minutes." Damien says. His raises a hand and repeats the message by gesture. As one, several shadows melt up from the rocks around them, checking and readying gear and zip lines.

Damien pulls on his black mask and checks his weapons, while admiring Lian's form in her own gear out of the corner of his eye.

Lian nodded, pulling over her own mask, making sure that her hair wasn't going to be in her way.

She was aware of Damien looking at her out of the corner of his eye.

Actually, she might be doing a little looking of her own.

Damien has already set the lines. He motions to Lian to proceed him down. She will be the first person to enter and give the rest of his soldiers their directions. There are twelve people inside the facility tonight.

There will be twelve less when they leave.

Damien slinks about like shadow, waiting for Lian to give the signal for everyone to move down the cliff.

Lian has had some experience in leading teams. The Titans, the Outsiders, so this shouldn't be much of a hassle for her.

And stealth? Well that comes almost like a second nature for her. A perk of having a former Bat-prodigy for a godfather.

Lian used her binoculars to see if there was anyone in the facility to see them coming. No one around the premise. No one watching through the windows. Lian doubled checked for security cameras, seeing two positioned right near the door. They wouldn't have to worry about those until they were ready to move.

Double-checking to make sure that no one would see them coming, Lian signaled for the group to move down the cliff, being the first to rappel down the cliffside.

Damien follows her down, expertly following her movements down the cliff. He would let Lian lead until she either failed or succeeded. He hoped again that she would pass, because it would remove much of the suspicion that had begun to grow around her.

Stealth is second nature to him as well as they move into position to take the facility.

When they got into position, Lian made a motion to the two security cameras near the door. They'd need to take them out quickly and quietly. She wanted to avoid them getting noticed as long as possible.

She made a quick check for guards, and not spotting any in her line of vision. Still, she had her throwing knives at the ready.

The other ninja await orders from their field leader.

Lian signaled for one of the ninja to take out the security cameras.

When she was certain that the cameras were out, Lian moved forward, keeping out of sight the entire time.

A guard was circling the perimeter. Lian remained hidden, before sneaking up behind him, pricking him in the neck with a small dart.

The dart was lace with a powerful sedative. The guard would be knocked out for a good twenty four hours, but if anyone walked by, they'd think he was dead.

Lian grabbed the guard's keycard and continued to the door. She swiped the keycard, making her way inside.

There were more security cameras when she got inside. Staying out of sight, Lian quickly took them out before signaling for the others to make their way to her.

Damien watches her work. Efficient. Calm. Self-assured. All desirable traits in a field leader. The other ninja follow Lian and Damien pulls up the rear, keeping an eye out for any other security measures or patrols they might have missed.

The guard laying on the ground is moved out of sight, though once he is, Damien uses a nerve strike to make sure the guard does /not/ wake up. Ever.

There shall be no trace of their presence here.

He moves closer to Lian as the other ninja get into position.

Lian peered around the corner. No one was coming. She signaled for them to move, slinking along as if she was one with the shadows themselves.

There was a guard up ahead. Lian creeped up behind him.

She was going to have to up her game if she wanted to make it through this alive. He was testing her.

She snapped the guards neck.

Damien watched as she snapped the guard's neck and he collapsed. It was so vicious so...sudden that he couldn't help but be inspired and just a bit taken with it.

Lian was truly one of a kind.

Once the guard was dispatched, Damien began giving orders by hand signal. Two ninja were sent to disable all security alarms and other camera on the premises. Three others were sent back to deal with any other roving security outside the base. Three further were corral the remaining scientists and complete another, smaller mission during their time here.

The final two were sent to keep watch for any new arrivals to the area. Soon enough, Damien was left alone with Lian. He directs her to follow him around the hallway to the right and down another series of turns, before they come to a large steel door in Northwest Corner of the base.

Damien waits a few seconds, punches in a series of key codes, then steps back. The door opens with a hiss of released air. Ice cold air rushes from the room, and Lian can inside that it is a weapon storage unit of some kind.

Damien removes a small pellet from his belt, crouches and rolls it across the floor into the center of the room. Nothing happens for a second, and then the pellet begins to emit white smoke.

Very soon, lethal grid of red laser lines springs into being before them.

"Show me, Lian, how you would overcome this challenge." Damien commands, speaking for the first time.

She'd crossed a line. One that she never thought she'd cross.

She did for a reason. If she hadn't done it, then she'd end up dead. She just had to keep telling herself that it was for a purpose...that she had no other choice.

Yeah, that would mask the knot of shame in her stomach perfectly.

She'd take it out on some poor defenseless punching bag in the gym later.

Right now, she'd had other things to worry about.

Lian observed the red laser lines, calculating exactly how she was going to get around them.

She deposited her bow and arrows at Damien's feet, her knives secured to her person. She approached the the grid of laser lines, dropping flat on the ground and slowly slinking forward on her stomach, before slowly getting up, avoiding getting lasered, not even paying attention to the fact that her ass was up in the air. Her head was last to come up, as she did a handspring over another set of lasers, avoiding any part of her body coming into contact with them. She took a moment's refuge against the wall, before going back down to the ground, legs first this time, as she slid under the lasers again, before slowly slinking back up, launching into a couple more well-place handsprings, landing in front of the storage unit.

Lian took out the stolen security card, swiping it to open the storage unit. Pressing a button on the console, the lasers deactivated. Checking for any booby traps, Lian removed the weapon from it's unit, turning to face Damien.

And yes, the look on her face might indeed be a little smug.

She moves like a shadow, or water, smooth as silk. Damien thinks to himself as Lian moves through the grid. He was suddenly glad that Morgaine was not on this mission. She might put forth some idea that Damien was enchanted by this dark-haired assassin.

Which would be the utter truth.

As he smiles at Lian, he enters another code into the dialpad, and Lian will watch as Damien deactivates the laser grid.

"Well played, Jade Dragonness." Damien smiles.

"Thank you, Lian." Damien says, accepting the part from her. "We will have much to discuss after this is over. For now, we must obtain one more item before we leave. While you were in there, I summoned the chopper. ETA, ten minutes." he says.

"Come, we have more item we must obtain." he says, turning to head down another hallway.

Damien leads her to another storage area, where he obtains several solar powered battery cells, and twelve high-grade circuit boards.

Once they have what they need, he turns to Lian.

"It is time to meet at the rendezvous point. The building should explode within four minutes." Damien says, heading for the door.

Everyone that wasn't with them was dead. Lian pushed any thoughts she had about playing the hero to the back of her head.

"Let's go then," Lian said, following after him.

As the pair returns from their destination, they are met on the way by each group of ninja that Damien gave a side mission to. Each of them reported in that their objectives were achieved. All facility workers had been dispatched. Charges were set. Files obtained. Parts for the machines appropriated.

The members of the League of Assassins follow the Demon's Head to the chopper as the Wayne Enterprises facility explodes, leaving no trace of the of their presence behind, but several dead bodies.

The helicopter will take them to the airfield where the private jet is waiting for their arrival.

After a shower and a change of clothes, Damien will pour two glasses of wine, waiting for Lian to join him.

Lian took a long shower of her own. She had a lot to mull over in her brain. Like maybe she was getting in over her head.

And the second she got out of her meeting with Damien, she was definitely taking advantage of the gym.

She changed, and made her way to Damien's chambers. She knocked on the door.

"Enter." he calls back, having settled himself in his chambers. He knew that she may have something to say about how the mission occurred, but he would deal with those concerns. He didn't know what she would wear, but he decided to try something new tonight.

He wore plain old blue jeans and a white tee shirt. Morgaine wouldn't just guess something was up if she saw him in this; he would know. Damien only wore formal clothing or his gear, ever.

Mother would not approve.

"Excellent work tonight, Jade Dragonness. I admit that there were concerns of your readiness for the mission, but all of the members of our team approved of your leadership ability.

Their doubts are silenced." Damien tells her, standing up to offer her the glass of wine.

"To a job well-done."

Lian hadn't been going for formality. She wore a pair of black pants and black blouse. It wasn't super casual, but it was better than the workout pants and sports bra she'd been close to wearing. She could change after her meeting, anyway.

Lian took the glass of wine. "Thank you," she said, "I am glad that my work satisfies you."

She admitted that he looked pretty damn hot in formal wear. But seeing him...less than formal made even...hotter.

"You moved with surety and direction that I have rarely seen. My sister would have been hard pressed to deny you." Damien says, taking a sip of his wine. He steps away from her to take a look at his bookshelf, selecting a book seemingly at random.

His blood was still up from the mission, and reading often brought him down from such...though Lian being in the room with him was much more heady than the wine.

"I have been watching you for the last week and there is something about you that troubles me.

Is there anything that you wear that does not look good upon you?" he asks, his eyes slowly taking in ever inch of her body.

Lian took a sip of her own wine, a grin crossing her face.

Her own blood was up the mission. And being the presence of Damien wasn't helping bringing it down.

"I could ask the same question to you," she said.
