Damien waits for her to be seated, taking another sip of wine in the meantime. Once Lian is seated, he will begin reading the story of the Jade Dragonness to her. It is the story of a young woman who leaves home with nothing, determined to succeed or fail by her own merits.
In time, she catches the eye of a lonely prince who befriends her, then falls in love with her. There are portions of the work that would be deemed racy by modern standards, but Damien doesn't simply read the story.
He tells it as if he lived it, once long ago.
Eventually, the story comes to an end, and he looks over to Lian.
"What do you think?" he asks.
