Labor Day - JSA
The weather was absolutely perfect for holding a cookout.

Tables had been placed on the roof of headquarters and the large grill fired up to get nice and hot. Burgers, hot dogs, sausage, ribs, corn on the cob, pasta salad, salad and fruit salad were just some of the food available to eat. Soda, water, fruit juice and other beverages were on ice.

The JSA worked as a team to prepare the food. When they were ready, they carried it all outside and started their celebration.

It was a day of rest and relaxations for those who put their lives on the line for others.

Shit. She's using the glare.

Rex sighs, downs his entire bottle of beer in one shot, and sighs again. He's had his ass kicked twice in the last two or so months, and admitting that something he likes.

"Okay, so I might have gone to the bar the other night after Nic went on a date with Cindy Lord. I really just didn't want to think about my sister being...you know." Rex says, clearly uncomfortable with talking about Nicolette's sexuality, too.

"So, this Krogan comes into the bar and starts asking about Aleea of all people and where he could find her. Well, I may or may not have told him to go screw himself...and then I may or may not have called him a coward with no balls." Rex says quietly.

Hope, of course, would be aware that this is the single most grievous insult one could visit upon a Krogan warrior.

"So, he may or may not have tossed me through the glass window at the bar, and we might have fought out in the street until Aleea showed up. Then she left with him." Rex finishes quietly.

"So...yeah. That may or may not be what happened." Rex says.

	She wouldn't question his sister's sexuality. If he wasn't comfortable talking about it, then she wasn't going to pry. But Aleea just leaving with someone who tossed him through a window? Not cool. 	"Well, it wasn't quite like that, Goddess. The Krogan said that his boss had information on why her father made her come to Earth. "Oh, that's cool." Rex says, gathering up his courage. This was likely to get him laughed right out of the door, he'd had a lot of time to think over the last couple of months, especially after being beaten within an inch of his life.

"Hope, I have a confession to make." he says, wishing they were fighting or something right now. He could do this if they were fighting parademons or something.

Rex steels himself and starts speaking, because he may not do this after all if he doesn't do it now.

"I can't be your friend anymore. Wait, no. I mean that I can't be just your friend anymore." Rex says, looking over at her.

"You remember that guy that tried to hit on you last week when we were at the bar? I wanted to ram his face into a table. Not because he was annoying prick, which he was, but because...well, he was looking at you. I've wanted to be more than just your friend for a long time, but I didn't know how to say it, or how to really tell you.

I mean, I can call a Krogan a coward with no balls without even thinking about it, but asking you out on a date makes me think twice." Rex says, a chuckle escape his lips.

"You...you get me, Hope. We spar and we tease each other, but you've been there for me. You listen and you don't let me get away with lying to myself." Rex says.

"That and you got arrested with me when you could have easily said you didn't know me. Your parents must still think I'm crazy.
But I can't stop thinking about you, even when I shouldn't be, and I need to know if you feel anything like that at all, or if I'm crazy.

If I'm just crazy, then tell me now and we don't have to talk about this ever again." he says, bracing himself for her to tell him exactly that.

Hope nearly spit out her beer.

Not that she was disgusted or anything. He just caught her by surprise. Which was very hard for most people to do. Actually, her own family had a hard time surprising Hope.

Rex was her best friend. She could talk to him about anything, and knew that no matter the situation, she could always depend on him.

And well, if anyone ever messed with him, they'd have to deal with one very pissed off New God.

Yes, Rex was her best friend, but there was something about him that made her blood rush and her head spin when she thought if him.

No one had ever been able to do that to her before. Except for now.

Hope didn't say anything. She did, however, grab him by the shirt collar and kiss him fully on the lips.

And if anyone came along and tried to ruin this, she was going to throw them to New Jersey.

	Rex did not expect the kiss, but that made it even better. He'll kiss Hope as long as he wants, not even caring the ribs are getting cold. If his Goddess is happy, then so is he. And if anyone came along to ruin this and it wasn't world altering...he'd probably let her throw them to New Jersey, except for Nic. Nic just wouldn't get anymore bacon. Ever. I'm not like Avia, I can't speak my feelings freely like she does. Especially things like this. If you hadn't said anything, well, I'd probably just go along, ignoring my feelings."
