Watch Repairs (open)
The cars drive by outside, the birds chirp, and inside twenty-four separate clocks tick in perfect unison. A small get away lair for Professor IQ back in the day, taken over by Clock King afterwards, and now in the possession of one "Scott Bartholomew West" or, as his real name was, Scott Bartholomew Rayner-West or Knight-Rayner-West, depending on the side of the family, and forever known as Highball to his grandmother.

Calling him Scott would be much easier. And in this era, money is everything. So Scott is ready not only for alerts from Scooter (downstairs in the lab, watching The Shawshank Redemption), but also for customers with broken time pieces.

Just another day at Western Time Watch Repairs.

"Well that seems a little mean. Gold is a good friend of my father! Or... he will be... don't you have a friend of the family you consider an uncle or aunt? Well for me, that's the Metal Men! And the fact that you just insulted not only my character but also the character and popularity of my Uncle Goldy has hurt me, on such a level, that I'm afraid I must ask you to leave my store! Good day to you sir!" Scott points to the door with a stern look on his face.

"Indeed, sir. I agree that only those of a mechanical persuasion can truly be considered true sidekicks." Scott grins at Scooter.

"No, I meant that he's a pretty pretty man." Scott just grinned wider. He was enjoying making Goldstar squirm a little, but all in good fun.

"Look, you really want proof I'm hero material? How can I prove it?"

Scott looks to Henry. "Thanks for both the support and the suggestion, Henry. Scooter, protocol NMW-O 231, please."

"Sir, it scares me, to this very day, that in the preprogrammed protocols, you not only made three sets of nude wrestling protocols, but also subsets for the variations. And it wasn't until now that I realized you were just thinking ahead."

Scott looks at Scooter. "So for the last four years, you've doubted me for the NMW, NHW and NFW protocols? Really?"

Scooter bobs. "Sir, just please, just once, grab the oil yourself. And don't make me watch."

Scott scratches his chin. "I don't know... you do have a recording feature for a reason..."

"That's dirty pool, sir."

Scott ignores the robot and looks at Jerry. "Hey, I'm Scott, aka Gold Sentinel, and the man who will fix your cuckoo clock, no need to worry about it."

Scott looks to Dinah. "Mine do. Made talking to a robot a lot easier."

He then looks at Riley. "Look. You and me go into my lab. Just us and our drones. And I'll tell you. No one else hears us. Unless having Henry there would make you feel safer. He can come along." Scott looks back to Dinah.

"No offense. But I'd like this to be Gold to Gold, if that's okay with you."

"Of course I do. What self respecting genius wouldn't?" Scott heads down the staircase behind the bookshelf and goes to the lab. "Come on down!" he yells up the stairs.

At the bottom of the stairs is a lab with pristine linoleum floors, wooden and aluminum tables and chairs, rolls and rolls of blueprints, a wall of small blue cubes and Erlenmeyer flasks filled with substances, a chalkboard with a bunch of randomly scribbled notes and a set of costumes up in the corner.

The costumes are a green and silver female figured jumpsuit with a green lightning bolt, a red and silver costume obviously based off of the Flash, a Lantern uniform for woman, a streamlined version of Alan Scott's costume, and a black and blue and red runner's suit with goggles.

The chalkboard reads such things as "3X2(9YZ)4A = ???", "Will + ??? = ignition!", "1. Make donuts 2. ??? 3. Profit!" and other such things.

"Well," Scott says looking to the other Gold, "Welcome to my humble abode. Above you is Western Time. Down here... is my lab."

"So... you want to know my angle? Those costumes over there are replicas of my family's. My mom, Green Lightning, the fastest Green Lantern ever. The Flash, fastest man alive. Green Lantern, inheritor of the Rayner ring. Sentinel, possessor of the Starheart and, on rare occasions, the Starshadow. And my father, Quick Rick, genius and speedster extraordinaire. My whole family has powers. All of them. I mean, even without her ring, my sister even has a small ability over plants! And what do I have? Nothing. I was kidnapped, almost daily, until I turned 12. It was always "Behold, [enter family member here], we have young Scott dangling over [enter danger here]." I've seen it all, acid breathing piranha, radioactive space tigers, acid, laser sharks. Everything. I've been frozen and thawed, burnt and healed, turned into a monster, tied to torpedoes and shot at my family members.

"The only place I felt at home was the Flash Museum. I went through all the databanks, all the exhibits in the back and in storage. My family was a Flash family, who were they gonna argue? My brother gave me all access. And there... I learned of Booster Gold. How he went into the past to make a name for himself, and even accomplished enough to be in the Justice League, like my mom, brother and sister! I read up on Blue Beetle, and his inventions! I read up on Uncle Gold and the Metal Men, I read and listened about every leaguer, and volumes on the Flashes!

"Then... It came to me when I read about Booster and Beetle. I needed to make a name for myself, but I couldn't do it in the 26th century. I couldn't stay the "Flash's little brother" or "Green Lightning's powerless son." The embarrassment of the Rayners and the Wests, and since dad didn't follow the Knight legacy, I couldn't either. I couldn't even use the Quick Formula. Nothing worked." Scott sits down in his chair. He squints his eyes and Scooter flies over with a glass of water for him. He drinks then hunches over.

"So, I researched the technology in the Flash museum. I researched it and improved it. Captain Cold's cold gun, the 7th Golden Glider's Glider beam, the 5th Top's Centrifuge Beam, the laser gauntlets of the JLI suit of Booster Gold, the BB Gun, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. I improved them all up to the standards that I had access to, being the brother of two Leaguers. I made so many tools, even a few from whole cloth." Scott decides to leave out that he forgot a few he may go back for thanks to Henry.

"And I came back here, accidentally fried my Chronoporter circuit, and set up shop in the abandoned lair of a Professor IQ. All I want to do is be a hero. A hero that people look up to the same way that they do... will... look up to my mom, my dad, my siblings. I couldn't continue any of my family's legacies. I couldn't be a Flash, a Lantern, a Quick, a Starknight. So I decided on a legacy that was a bit more obscure. And hope that maybe I could be part of that one."

Scott looks at Riley. "That's my angle. To be the sort of hero my whole family is made up of, and I just couldn't be. No powers. No right to a Cosmic Device. No rings left for me. So I came back here, hoping that maybe, just maybe, I could do something for the people here, and maybe add my own page to a legacy. But if you decide to send me back, don't think I won't fight you. It took me a lot to get here, and I'm not going back."

	Henry is quiet throughout the entire story. But if Scott wanted to come up with a story that would play on Henry's sympathy any more, he'd have to work pretty damned hard. Henry knows what it's like to grow up surrounded by friends and family members with powers, and being... just a guy. If Riley wants to fight now, Scott won't be fighting alone. Riley listens very carefully to everything, having Skeets record it all for later review. His poker face is firmly in place, but it's not a harsh expression.

Finally, he speaks.

"First... not having powers doesn't mean you're powerless. It's who you are that's going to define your super identity."

He wants to talk about how his dad, even if started out true, was only playing the fool for so long. But no, being a Carter means preserving the secret that Booster Gold saved time more than most people could count. The first Time Lord in the family was a buffoon. A prancing fool of a glory-hound. That's what everyone had to think.

"Second, if I ever find out you're not playing straight with me, there's no place or time you can hide from me." He didn't have quite the same emotional heart-strings pulled as Henry, having grown up around heroes without inherent superpowers as much as ones with.

"Third... this would have been a lot simpler if you were just a douche and I could wipe the floor with you." He smirks, extending a hand.

Scott looks at the hand and thinks. After a second, he takes it.

"Now, what I said doesn't leave this room. If anyone asks, I'm part of a team from the future with my siblings called the Strikers. I'd prefer people to disassociate the quick, funny watch repair man from the cocky, brash and loud Gold Sentinel."

Besides, you'd lose, Golden Boy... Scott thinks to himself.
