Something to Smash (open)
She still wasn't thrilled about the idea of being back in the United States and she was equally not thrilled about living with her brother. It wasn't that Rex was a bad guy--he certainly wasn't and though she was unlikely to admit it openly, Nicolette loved her brother like no one else in the world. It was more that she was still frustrated with why she'd been sent home for what essentially seemed to her to be babysitting. So she'd been making out with that guy in Cairo. Big deal! He was damn sexy and she's got hormones like crazy. It would have been a great hook-up, if not relationship. But no. Carter and Shayera had put her on a plane and shipped her home. That many hours with her wings tucked out of sight had been agony. That she had to continue the lack of stretch and flight for school pissed her off as well. High school was another less-than-fun thing, having been carefully home-schooled for years.
But today. Today, she was out from under Rex's thumb (though when he'd discovered she'd disposed of his beer he'd be pissed) and there was no school. It was time for a flight. Mace in hand and wings fully extended, she took off from St. Roch and just...flew. She didn't much care where she ended up or who she encountered. She was free.
