When next the General spoke, it was in English.
"Yingzi Bi means Shadow Arm," he explained. "It is an organization that allegedly works behind the scenes to further the ambitions of the Chinese government without official recognition by it so that it may do what it feels neccesary without tarnishing the reputation of the Party or the state."
"That's slander, General!" The bureaucrat's face had reddened. "The organization is a myth. It does NOT exist. It's slander put out by Western intelligence to justify their meddling in sovereign Chinese affairs." The man spoke in Mandarin, clearly hoping no one on the team could understand him.
"Regardless that is who he says has my son."
"There is no Yingzi Bi," the bureaucrat snarled. "I will not have you sniffing out fairy tales. It is simply some subversive group trying to use the name as some means of leverage."
