"You really know how to take the wind out of a guy's sails, don'tcha?" Joey asked.

Still, he gave the question a little bit of attention.

"Trust fund kid, ya know? Live fast, love hard, drink like there's no tomorrow. Never had to do anything. Do the hero-thing when I ain't got nothing better to do, or if I'm there when somebody needs help."

He took a breath. "I like helpin' people, though. That part ain't so bad."

He trailed off. "Okay, maybe they haven't."

He gave the rest some thought. "Got a friend of mine out there with no real powers to speak of, and he's fightin' in one of the most dangerous spots on the planet this side of Gotham. Me, I had my "heart" ripped out by a Black Lantern and kept right on goin', and I ain't done much of anything."

Another pause. "Reckon it's time to step up my game."
