Exercise in Trust
It was sometime after two thirty in the morning when Corinna was roused from her sleep. Dreams like that shouldn't disturb her sleep so much but she had a hint of warning from them. Something about Silver wings. She had no idea what it meant and she knew that it wouldn't make sense.

Dreams of the future rarely did. She gets up out of her bed and moves out of her room tugging lightly at the collar of her shirt. She fel hot and uncomfortable. There was also a dull ache in one leg. She didn't bother turning the light on as she started to go down the stairs. She wanted to get a glass of cold water to help sooth her mind and the sudden uncomfortable heat.

Then it happened. Her bad leg gave out from under her. There was sharp nearly blinding pain and she ends up in a hurt heap at the bottom of the stair case. She winces in pain and tries to get up under her own power. It is not going to happen. Not quite yet and she mentally berates herself for not being more careful.

Great. Her only chance right now is if someone comes along or to wait for the attack of pain to go away. Either one doesn't seem like a good option to the Amazon.

"I... was not pleased to be sent here at first," Corinna admits. It must have been so obvious to everyone. Corinna's displeasure at being around here had been palpable for a while.

"Now though I am glad."

He reaches out and puts his hand on hers. "You know what, the first times my dad took me out of Metropolis back to Smallville, away from the cars, and computers and constant rush, I hated it. I mean, my grandparents had visited a couple times, they were fine, but the total change of pace and being away from everything familiar was hard. I couldn't sleep with all the noises of the farms and woods, I didn't have any friends there, there didn't seem to be anything to do. And now its one of my favorite places on Earth. I can go there to get away from the press of the big city and appreciate life at a slower pace. Change is hard. I've heard about Paradise Island... places don't get a name like that because they're awful. It was the life you knew, people you knew, all your friends, all your security. I would have hated being in your shoes... and maybe wouldn't have dealt with it as well as you have. But I'm glad you're here."

She wasn't sure what she should say. Jon was very kind. Much different than she imagined anyone being even though she had tried her best to listen to Mother. It was still hard to accept that this is how men could be.

"Thank you Jon. I am still getting used to this place. But it is not like when I first got here."

"You've gotten to know us some, and the places out here. It only makes sense, though I'm sure you still get homesick. Say, has anyone taken you out to see the city at all? Maybe I could show you a movie, or a couple of my favorite restaurants? Help you adapt and find some fun things?"

"No. I have done some exploring on my own. It is better to run outside in the fresh ir after all but I have not ventured far." She makes an awkward sound. "There is a Greek community here that I have been sticking to. The food is more familiar as is the culture."

She gives him a long look as if measuring him once again. Then she nods. "I would like that Jon."

"No problem, sticking to the familiar is all well and good, but, I guess, sometimes going straight from Metropolis to Smallville can be good too. Any idea what kind of movies you like?"
