Exercise in Trust
It was sometime after two thirty in the morning when Corinna was roused from her sleep. Dreams like that shouldn't disturb her sleep so much but she had a hint of warning from them. Something about Silver wings. She had no idea what it meant and she knew that it wouldn't make sense.

Dreams of the future rarely did. She gets up out of her bed and moves out of her room tugging lightly at the collar of her shirt. She fel hot and uncomfortable. There was also a dull ache in one leg. She didn't bother turning the light on as she started to go down the stairs. She wanted to get a glass of cold water to help sooth her mind and the sudden uncomfortable heat.

Then it happened. Her bad leg gave out from under her. There was sharp nearly blinding pain and she ends up in a hurt heap at the bottom of the stair case. She winces in pain and tries to get up under her own power. It is not going to happen. Not quite yet and she mentally berates herself for not being more careful.

Great. Her only chance right now is if someone comes along or to wait for the attack of pain to go away. Either one doesn't seem like a good option to the Amazon.

He thought he heard a crash down this way. Johnathan comes to investigate closer, wandering down the stairs. Fortunately, he both hears her moving, and his nightvision is pretty good.

"Corrinna, are you alright?"

Corinna freezes in her struggle. She had not expected anyone to show up even if it was inevitable. She decides she shouldn't lie. And that maybe she should ask for help because she is becoming more and more uncomfortable.

But that means trusting him. "I... am not well," she starts then stops herself before she says too much.

She still doesn't really trust anyone.

"Do you need help up? Can you be moved? If so, we should get you out of the stairwell." He considers the hesitation in her voice. "And maybe to somewhere a little more private and we can talk, and get you some help if needed."

"I don't think I can hold my own weight," she admits that much at least. She is glad that he isn't pressing too much. But she will have to tell him something no matter how much she really would rather not.

He nods. "Is it alright if I carry you?"

She could refuse and be bull headed about it. But she was in pain and on the ground. Being off of the ground would be so much better.

"You may."

He picks her up easily, and sweeps the area with x-ray vision to make sure no one else is coming. She's obviously having enough trouble with just him seeing her like this. And from what he knows of Amazons, it makes sense.

To make the walk as smooth and painless for her as possible, he hovers to the first available guest room, laying her down on the bed and moving to close the door quietly.

"Do you need a doctor?"

"No. My leg has been like this for a long time," she says quietly. Then feels he is owed an explanation of some sort.

"I got hurt a long time ago in an accident. For some reason it never healed right no matter what was done. Even Josh's healing ability couldn't fix it for good. He did heal us after all and I thought it would be fine. It hasn't been this bad in a long time."

She still feels like she is saying too much but it needs to be said.

He nods. "Do you mind if I take a look? If his healing and Amazon healing skills haven't fixed it, I doubt there's a lot I can do... but I may know a trick or two."

"Go ahead. I don't see what harm it can do," Corinna allows after giving it some thought. She had decided that he could be trusted.

He nods, crouching down beside the bed to take a closer look. He moves his hand over her leg carefully, trying to find the bunched and cramping muscles, then checks the area with x-ray vision to try and find any signs of damage deeper than the muscles.

"Let me know if this hurts, or if I'm getting too personal."

"Given what I am used to I might not complain though if it is what I think of as a minor discomfort."

Most of the problems with her leg are around her knee. Corinna winced a few times as his hand passed over bunched up muscle just above her knee.

It did look like there had been some damage to the bone. As if it had some how started to twist just enough so that it would feel as if it was grinding against the knee cap and tibia but not so twisted that the entire bone was that way.

He considers this carefully, pretty sure she knows exactly the state of her leg.
"We ought to get Mr. Irons to build you a basic harness and guard for this, with a little bit of cybernetic support. If we're discrete, we can get you something to help protect it and give you some additional support in combat that will just look like its part of your armor." he muses aloud.
As he talks, he uses his heat vision and very gentle fingers, heating up the muscles like a hot pad while trying to work out the worst of the cramping around the injured area without touching the wounded area itself.

"In my boot I have a brace to help stabilize my leg. It isn't the muscle that is weakened it is the bones that are damaged," she says with a small shrug.

"But I think your idea has merit. I never intend to become a burden to anyone on this team. This injury is not something I like to discuss."

"Right... I x-rayed it, the bone is twisted. I can soothe the muscles a little to help make it easier to move, but can't go beyond that. But that's why I was thinking of calling Mr. Irons. He can be discrete, and we can make something so it has some protection and extra stability without making it obvious."

"Hmm." Why must this be so perfectly reasonable? She'll never know. "Then we can speak to him about this. I do not wish to have to worry about my leg giving out during a fight. I can find other options for when I am in day to day wear."

"Hmmm, we could let Josh in on it? Quietly, of course. Maybe over time, he can do something for longer term damage? And I'd be happy to help cover for you for things where you need to stay behind or take it easy."

"He already knows. He sensed the injury at the party but we didn't really talk about it. I wasn't comfortable talking about it." She looks away.

"I haven't gotten used to the idea of trusting people who are not family with this. But I do appericate what you are offering. Some days the pain will be too much for me to get around. On days like that you won't see me out of my room unless I absolutely need to make an appearance."

"You don't need to tell anyone you don't want to. I do have some history on Amazons and all. If you need help with something, just let me know, I'm happy to help out."
He sits down on the bed beside her, careful not to jostle her leg. "Thank you for trusting me."

"Thank you for not judging me," she replies. Then she brushes some hair back from her face.

"I need to start trusting outsiders. I can't learn what Mother wishes me to learn if I keep everyone at a distance. This is perhaps, a part of the lesson."

He shrugs. "So? Ask my mother about stories of me when I was little sometime. If I hadn't been invulnerable, I'd probably have died a dozen times, or at least broken a few dozen bones. Can't hold that against you... just help you out now. We're glad to have you here."

"I... was not pleased to be sent here at first," Corinna admits. It must have been so obvious to everyone. Corinna's displeasure at being around here had been palpable for a while.

"Now though I am glad."

He reaches out and puts his hand on hers. "You know what, the first times my dad took me out of Metropolis back to Smallville, away from the cars, and computers and constant rush, I hated it. I mean, my grandparents had visited a couple times, they were fine, but the total change of pace and being away from everything familiar was hard. I couldn't sleep with all the noises of the farms and woods, I didn't have any friends there, there didn't seem to be anything to do. And now its one of my favorite places on Earth. I can go there to get away from the press of the big city and appreciate life at a slower pace. Change is hard. I've heard about Paradise Island... places don't get a name like that because they're awful. It was the life you knew, people you knew, all your friends, all your security. I would have hated being in your shoes... and maybe wouldn't have dealt with it as well as you have. But I'm glad you're here."

She wasn't sure what she should say. Jon was very kind. Much different than she imagined anyone being even though she had tried her best to listen to Mother. It was still hard to accept that this is how men could be.

"Thank you Jon. I am still getting used to this place. But it is not like when I first got here."

"You've gotten to know us some, and the places out here. It only makes sense, though I'm sure you still get homesick. Say, has anyone taken you out to see the city at all? Maybe I could show you a movie, or a couple of my favorite restaurants? Help you adapt and find some fun things?"

"No. I have done some exploring on my own. It is better to run outside in the fresh ir after all but I have not ventured far." She makes an awkward sound. "There is a Greek community here that I have been sticking to. The food is more familiar as is the culture."

She gives him a long look as if measuring him once again. Then she nods. "I would like that Jon."

"No problem, sticking to the familiar is all well and good, but, I guess, sometimes going straight from Metropolis to Smallville can be good too. Any idea what kind of movies you like?"
