Open House
The Justice League was having an open house for all their current, former and reservist heroes and their friends and families. It was a nice way to show what their member did on a regular basis and build up camaraderie and to give heroes who were members of the justice league something to strive for in the future. This was especially useful with the older generation of heroes starting to retire and the younger generation stepping up to take their place.

Mikel doesn't have his bow right on hand for something like this - which is a definite problem. That would really, really help at a time like this.

So instead, he just charges at Hal, trying to buy some time for clever plans. At least he's one of the more capable here of going toe to toe with the big leaguers. For a while anyway.

Janie takes a deep breath and as Mikal charges forward, she swerves around as fast as she can to come from behind. They need a plan against a guy like this, it's true.

She tries to think of what she knows about Green Lanterns and their weaknesses. She's pretty sure the yellow impurity thing is long gone so that leaves the basics really. What's a GL need to be a threat? Basically, the ring and willpower. The latter required concentration. Not much of a plan, but when dealing with powers directly related to thoughts and concentration, distractions were good. At least let them be long enough to get the Starro off, or, failing that, the ring long enough for the Starro to be easier to deal with. Good thing bats always had something on them, a couple flashbangs and smokebombs in her bag and a few ice pellets and an explosive. Not much to work with but...that's what they have.

As she flies around she just briefly tugs on the shoulder strap of the shoulder bag she always carried around. To anyone else it'd mean nearly nothing but she knew Mikal would get the message. Distract enough for the bat stuff to get an opening to come in and take over distracting duty. Then of course, rip starfish off. Not that she expects this to go smoothly, this was after all Hal Jordan.

Unfortunately, concentration wasn't necessarily an issue for a Starro-controlled Hal Jordan. When Starro is controlling you, you don't waste time thinking up convoluted or clever constructs.

That being said, Mikal's charge was greeted with several beams of green energy. Janie wasn't ignored, but wasn't the target at the moment.

Mikal gets hit with one of the blasts after dodging a couple of them. He's slammed back into the wall, leaving a dent in it.

Still, he's succeeded in drawing attention off of Janie. He peels himself out of the wall, coming at Hal again.

The concentration not being necessary bit? Yeah, she's figuring that out now. Given, you know, no fancy constructs, just energy beams heading at Mikal.

Shoot.

Okay, how durable were Starros exactly? She wondered if they could find some way to freeze it, and superpower punch. But either way, she needed to occupy Mr. Jordan and for a bit too. While Mikal has most of the attention, she swerves in her flight, rolling a smoke bomb to explode under his feet, giving Mikal a slight nod before she goes diving into her smoke distraction. They'd done training like this before, hit 'em high and low. Because for fights like this you had to get in close.

That did not, however, work easily against somebody capable of producing a shield that covered all sides. The smoke bomb exploded, and Hal erected a spherical shield around himself to take the hits for him. And once they were both in real close, he'd begin his assault on them both.

Mikal is, indeed, used to his cousin's tactics. The shield may take hits, but there's still smoke around. As soon as the cover goes up, he breaks off his charge, moving to attack from a new angle. As such, he's able to avoid the first wave of attack, at least, and swings at the shields. He may not have the experience of his mother or aunt, but he still has Amazonian strength, enough to at least hopefully force Hal to keep his attention his way, while Janie works on the smart-person angle.

Well that was sort of expected. Still, they needed to find a way to get past shielding and get in close again. Because without Mikal's bow they were sitting ducks when fighting at a distance.

When Hal's shields go up she frowns and instead at last minute, switches to flying in feet first, using her momentum to drive her into the shield and use it to push off and away from Mr. Jordan. Sure the impact might've dented or cracked the shields but she knew it wasn't enough to break them. Regroup time since he'd be gearing up for a counter attack.

It surely wasn't a good idea to stay close to the shield. Janie had the right idea with pushing off. Despite the damage it had taken, Hal's counter was more than enough to stave off the assault. What was his counter, exactly?

Spikes jutting out of the shield in all directions.

Ow. Ow, ow, ow.

Those spikes are definitely going to be a problem. Mikel damages the shields, and, with time, might be able to hammer through them, but he's left cut up some in return.

He backs off, regrouping with Janie to try and cover her and figure out the next plan of attack.

Pushing off gives her a bit of a boost in speed in her getaway but one nicks her leg, ripping through her jeans. Ow, but thank you durability. But damn, Mikal was taking the worst of it. They need to plan something because clearing rushing in wasn't going to fly.

She skids a bit on her backwards feet on the ground landing, not wanting to turn away from their opponent, and thinks while Mikal joins her and stands in front. Okay, well at least this was an opportunity. "Don't need to cover me, I'm durable," she says as she puts a hand on his arm and steps half in front of him. "Save it." But the only purpose of that was to use her body to block the view of her hand slipping a freeze bomb and a flash bang into his right jacket pocket. Save it had a new meaning now. Perhaps the Starro would come to expect the brawling from Mikal and the attacks from the back, including the gadget related ones from her. At least now Mikal was armed for an unexpected attack down the line.

Okay, vague plans starting to form and in place, Janie takes off, flying low and relatively close to the ground, Daddy had made sure maneuverability was a thing she always practiced, so in a pinch she could just use her feet to push off from the ground and give her an extra burst of speed for last minute dodges and sharp changes in direction that were hard to do without a push off.

Time for them to see what it took to get through that shield.

(Time-skipping because... just because it makes life easier.)

It had been a long, hard fight. But in the end, Janie and Mikal prevailed. They got the one-up on a distracted Hal, and managed to get the starfish off of him. At that point, he started helping deal with the other mind controlled heroes.
