"I know she's playing with me..."
It has been a while since Fox has gone out of her way to get Robin's attention. She has to get him close to something that needs to be dealt with tonight. Thankfully they have all night she just needs him to back her up. First thing is first though, she needs to get his attention.

So first she fumbles a robbery three men are trying to do. She leaves it for him to clean up. She blew a kiss at the men as she left. Then she went running triggering a few silent alarms to catch his attention. It is her way of saying hello and come find me.

She needs him at her back soon. She is getting impatient. She needs his help tonight. She has waited on this information for too long. If she waits any longer people will be in danger. She can't let that happen and she doesn't trust anyone else to help her with this.

He hasn't really seen much of her in a while, he'd spent the last while going to different cities to cut off the major veins of the arms trade that was dealing in Gotham. It'd worked well enough, there'd be a major dent in illegal arms in Gotham for a while. It wasn't gone, but enough that it'd take some time before it resurged.

So when he catches the three men at their robbery, and then has to follow the trail of silent alarms, Robin knows who wants his attention. And he can't help the smile that tugs on his lips, she was fun and he enjoyed her.

Wondering if this was a 'welcome back' game of hers of some sort, Robin speeds ahead to get hot on her tail, wondering where this chase would end up.

She gives him no greeting right now. He has to catch her before she talks. She is leading him clear across his normal route towards a place he rarely frequents.

Sadly to say he is only one person.

That piques his curiosity. No greeting and in a direction that's not a way she'd go if this was a game of some sorts. Or maybe it still was. He doesn't know but out of habit now he's on high alert. Something's different.

She needs to be all business. She can give him a proper hello later.

Finally she stops and perches waiting for him.

He notices, and he's already in crimefighting mode long before he reaches her.

When he lands beside her he doesn't say anything, just looks to where they were then back at her, clearly indicating that now was the time to explain things.

"While you were away I was busy," she explains. "I found this by accident. It needs to get shut down if we can pull it off. Someone has been selling off old equipment from Gotham's rogues. I've been keeping an eye on it all... They just got a nice stash of Fear Gas."

She gives him a serious look. "In the wrong hands that could take out a city."

'Take out a city' was an odd way of putting it but she wasn't far off. Enough fear gas, someone smart enough to know how to distribute it to expose the maximum number of people, and even if the effects were short-lived, the mass chaos would be...well, he could already imagine.

"What kind of security and how many of them at any time are guarding?"

"Pretty heavy for such a small building. Ten men on the side. Five posted around the building outside," she points them out carefully.

"They're good. Well armed. No way could I crack this place myself. The security system is that newer Epsilon 2650. With the heat sensors?" She pauses to see if he is keeping up with her so far.

She'll find he isn't looking at her, he's focusing on the building and it's surroundings, observing, taking mental notes, and planning. Preferably he'd keep the place under surveillance for a bit before getting some backup and storming it. "Anything happening tonight? Fear gas being moved? Used?"

Thomas's jaw clenches for a moment, as he considers the options. They aren't very good. He's going in without much information, no prep time and no forewarning to Maria or AltDad that he was going in. Sarah could fight but she wasn't a crimefighter, this was a very different thing.

On the other hand, if someone took the fear gas in the morning, either to a new location or out of the city...it'd be worse. And he'd be started from nothing.

Sometimes the choices sucked.

"No, we don't. Okay, we'll need to do something but you have to promise Sarah. Promise you'll tell me everything you know before we go in, and, most importantly, follow everything I say. The odds aren't the best, and this is the sort of operation that people can easily get shot in. Follow what I say and that won't happen. Promise?"

"Of course I promise. This is your thing, not mine. I'm a thief. Playing hero isn't my style," she changes her stance.

"Good. I wanted to hear it," he nods seriously then turns away again to watch the guards on the outside who were well hidden.

"If you can't let that happen, think about me. This is my city."

He won't realize it now, maybe later when there's less to worry about, but that was the first time he'd ever said my city. Not just in this universe, ever. Usually he avoided it, it was too much like Dad but somehow now it had slipped out.

My city.

Yes, in a way he'd always considered Gotham his city, but in the sense that anyone considered their hometown their city. But the way he'd said it and meant it this time...

That was very Batman.

My, my. He sounds intimidating when he talks like that.

No, not really intimidating. She thinks he sounds impressive. Put him in black and he might make her quake in her boots.

"You know me. I don't want to actually hurt people. These kinds of things strip their freedom away." She hates that.

"Looks like they'll be doing a walk about in another five minutes. They do it every hours so they don't get lax."

"Strips more than just freedom," he gravels. Yes, fear gas was always a terrible experience, and he hated it each and every time.

Five minutes. Okay, he'd done worse in less. "Okay, in the next three minutes, tell me everything you know of the place and the way they're transporting the fear gas, container sizes and all, I'll go from there." As she talks, he crouches on the roof to take out things from his belt and catalogue what he has to work with here. Not enough for something like this but it'll have to do.

So she starts to talk. She had seen eight canisters that looked like they contained 120 liters of Fear Gas in every canister. It was defiantly enough to do some damage as she thought.

They would be hard to move too but it was possible. She mentioned a specialized van that had been set up in the garage for safely transporting sensitive good that the buyer had arranged. To her it looked like this would be the safest bet.

She went into detail about the security lay out next. She knew that there were three access points she could hit to take the whole thing down. She needed at least a minute there though or they would be screwed.

Shockingly to her she has seen no actual cameras on the building layout.

Thomas considers this, he doesn't need to take them all out. Just get the fear gas away from them and time things so the police came to clean up or at least scatter the remaining ones. Still, dangerous. The other option would be to take out as many as possible and wait for the police but...that would be messy and have a much higher chance of gunfire hurting someone and a canister being damaged or accidentally made to release the gas...

Steal the canisters, drop them somewhere else for the police to pick up, then call in the police's heavy guns. Because this was out of their capabilities right now. To do this without them he'd need preparation, backup and more resources than he had at his disposal. But theft...between the two of them it was possible.

"We're going to steal the canisters. You use take out the security system for the police to come in later and I'll get into where they're holding and start loading the gas. But I'm going to need you to work up some distractions with the system, keep them away from the canisters and away from seeing you."

It's not much but they'll need to work with it.

Distractions?

She smirks over at him. "I can do that. I'm very good at making the Epsilon security systems hiccup. They'll be running all over the place except where you are until I do some real damage to their system," she purrs.

She isn't flirting but whose to know when she is wearing a mask.

Thomas shoots her an unamused look. "Save the purring for later Foxy. Theft time. We're partners in crime now." Well...in a way. It was still crimefighting and he'd be handing most of the gas to the police.

"This isn't crime. We're acting as retrieval specialists to reacquire dangerous goods," Sarah said seriously.

He just shoots her a skeptical raised eyebrow. "I know all the euphemisms for theft Sarah, that's one of them." He'd heard his mother use all sorts. Re-localization, retroactive displacement, practical socialism, income redistribution, you name it.

"We've got...under two minutes until they do a walk around. Get into position by then and lets take advantage of that opening to sneak in."

And he's gone into the shadows.

She is off to do her part. She has all her tools so once it is time it is far too easy. She gets around the men and hits up a security system node.

All over the place then men scatter. They don't know what is going on.

She plays them like an expert violinist. Robin has enough time to do his part now.

Thomas sneaks into the garage with the van and the canisters while Sarah gets to the security system node.

Ten men inside, five outside. Well he'd passed the five outside, they wouldn't be a factor just yet. Ten inside would be a problem. But luckily, fear gas wasn't the only thing in the place, though it was the most interesting. Which meant they couldn't put all, or even the majority, of their manpower in protecting the fear gas. Four at most in the garage he'd guess. Three if he was lucky.

Sneaking into where the canisters and van was it's clear that he isn't lucky. Four. Great. And that was assuming a fifth wasn't on break or something. Never safe to assume. He could at most take two out silently and get a shot in at that third unawares before he was noticed. But that'd still leave at least one armed man alert and available to call for backup at best.

Luckily he isn't doing this alone. If he times this, he can get the two closest to the van out and let Sarah's distractions help out. The first goes down with a nerve strike just before the alarms go off. And the chaos gives him the opening to get a jump on the second and knock him out without the noise alerting the remaining two as they run off to inspect the cause for alarm in another part of the building.

Okay, two down, thirteen armed and alerted to danger running. Not good odds, he hopes Sarah can make them run and keep them off both their tails for the next handful of minutes.

Because getting those couple of canisters sitting out, back into the van they'd been removed from wasn't something he could do while defending.

And suddenly Robin has exactly what he needs. Time. The alarms in the front of the building go and the guards are moving. Then to one corner and the other.

Sarah is giving these guards the run around. She is having fun leading them by their noses honestly. Right up until she feels someone coming right up behind her.

She moves fast dropping them like a sack of potatoes. Sarah doesn't know what to do. She has no idea if he called for back up so she starts to move.

It would kill Robin if she got shot.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]cantkeepmeout

Which is a blessing right now, since those canisters aren't easy to move, and he's got a few to do. While they're running he's getting them loaded into the unmarked van they had set out, no reason he can't use their transport.

Without her there was almost a guarantee he wouldn't have gotten them all in in time. But even the best distractions were only going to last so long, and he's lucky that by the time the guards realize the corners are fine and make their way back towards the places they'd left Thomas is jumping into the driver's seat (how silly of them to leave their keys on the dashboard).

It takes them no time to realize what's going on, and bullets start flying at the van and Thomas gets it started and slams on the accelerator. Head down and bullets shattering glass all around him, he hits the garage door opener on the keys and speeds straight through as more guards come and their bullets begin raining on the back of the van as he makes his great escape.

Grand theft auto eat your hear out.

Luckily he'd sent a high alert to the police so the people trained for this would get here soon. Now all he can do is get this van as far away as possible and hope Sarah had listened to those thief instincts and got the hell out of there. He'd find her later to meet up, now there was a getaway to make.

Sarah is a thief for a reason. She was gone like that. The guards couldn't get her as they were after Thomas. Then she makes sure she is far away from the area.

If he wants to find her she is on a roof top enjoying a pint of ice cream. She always tended to go for fatty foods after what she thinks of as a victory.

Getting rid of Fear Gas? Yeah that's a victory. She doesn't like the idea of control being stolen from people. Their freedom. It really bothers her.

[info]cantkeepmeout

Half an hour after he's driven off, he finds her on the roof. The wild drive away had been wonderfully timed because by the time the gunmen had jumped into their vans and on their bikes to race after him, the police were already coming on the scene. Granted, that also meant Thomas had barely squeaked by but it was worth it. From what he'd heard so far, some of the gunmen had been rounded up, not all unfortunately, but a few. Robin had dropped off the van and sent an alert to the police about where it was.

After he'd taken a canister out to bring to the cave of course. It needed analysis to see if it really was the old toxin. Besides, not like the police would know it was missing. Aside from a few nicks from the flying glass and a bullet getting awfully close to his shoulder, leaving a slight burn, he was fine. By bat standards this was the equivalent of walking away exactly as you came in.

Once he's dropped that off, he goes swinging across roofs to find Sarah.

"Ice cream Foxy?" No, he could never show up like a normal person, mysterious bat appearances that could make people jump were too much fun.

Interestingly they will find it's a twist on the variations that they are aware of. It is longer lasting than they are used to by a ten percent margin. Still it shouldn't be a problem since they got it out of that holding station.

"It's my personal ritual. Fatty foods if I did well," she purrs as she gets another spoon full of ice cream.

"Not a bad one," he says and crouches down to sit beside her on the roof. "By the way, appreciate the tip off tonight. And distraction." Which, although didn't use the exact words, was a thank you pretty much. He leans over, dips a finger in the ice cream to scoop and bit out and tastes with a rather impish smile on his face. "Yep, was right, not bad at all."

He was certainly in a good mood. Successful, if dangerous and with bad odds, operation, fear gas to analyze, and seeing Sarah again. All in all, a successful night in his books.

She could share too. Chocolate with bits of brownie in it. It is nearly a crime to not share. Sarah is feeling pretty good about all of this.
